Hello everyone, I'm having a few problems with my sorting system. I couldn't find anything by searching, but I hope I'm not double posting something. and sorry for the wall of text, I'm trying to add any info I think would be relevant at all.

My system is set up with one starting sorting machine that sends most stuff up painted white which will go through progressive sorting machines till it finds what it wants, colors it and puts it in the right chest, pretty basic (I think..). I am using the Direwolf20 pack.
I have attached a picture of the main area of concern at the bottom.
The problem I am having is with Thaumcraft Shards (and stuff like quicksilver) going through the bottom sorting machine(which I'll call machine 1). Or I guess not going through it. In machine 1 I have it set to color them magenta. But when the shards (painted white) get to the intersection at the very bottom instead of going into the machine, it goes through the restriction tube and then into machine 2 which doesn't have any designation for the shards. Machine 1 works fine for my mob drop stuff which I have Machine 1 setting to yellow.
I experimented trying to figure it out and tried removing the designation for the shards from machine 1, ran it and the shards go through it now. Add the designation back and they don't again so I was thinking maybe Thaumcraft stuff doesn't work with sorting machines.
But then I added designation for the shards up into machine 2 and it seems to work fine going through there.. So I have no clue what is wrong with the set up for Machine 1.. they both have power, they both have the same settings, continuous and the same sort setting. I have tried with other mod stuff like xycraft and that works fine with designation in either machine.

So I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows what I might be doing wrong, or is there a thaumcraft problem with sorting machines? If I have to I may just put the thaumcraft stuff in the last machine since that seems to be working, but I may be adding more machines in before these and could have another similar problem with those. ...and also its bugging me, so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any help.

Haven't heard of item specific routing issues in rp2. There are stacking issues that supposedly are worked out in newer version of xycraft.

Looks like the bottom sorting machine in your pic is back logged -- that red light on any redpower machine usually indicates it has something in it's item buffer it does not know what to do with.
They only have room in this buffer for one item and will reject any items after that get backlogged and the machines are removed from being a valid inventory/target in the tube network until the backlog is cleared.

That should be why items are bypassing that machine right now. You might put a chest on its output tube next to it and see what spits out. Whatever is in that buffer needs a path in your network.

Peppe most likely hit that one on the head. Good eye, Peppe.

To add, the backlog buffer has room for up to one stack of items IF it something was sucked in that couldn't be output. However, it has room for many stacks of items- more precisely, every item that it spit out into the tube network that subsequently came back. For example if you send 20 stacks of logs through it but the destination only has room for 1 stack, all 19 other stacks will come right back and sit in the backlog buffer. They'll come flooding out as soon as they have a valid destination.

Also more specifically, if it output 10 stacks of logs, then 30 stacks of saplings, then 1 stack of diamonds.. and everything came back except for 1 stack of logs, they would be in the backlog buffer in the order they got backstuffed. Eloraam likes stack based things (FORTH) so that makes sense. Just a nuance to be aware of.

Thanks guys! That was it! I had painted the tube magenta, but had set the machine to purple...

If I had a diamond every time someone posts an issue with a picture of a jammed sorting machine... ;)

I admit it could be difficult to diagnose if you don't know what the light means. One misplaced item will jam the machine completely, so even items that worked previously won't enter it any more.

If you had a Cobblestone for every time, you'd have been able to use a Minium Stone to make a Diamond by now.

What I think was throwing me off the most was that everything else was still filtering thought it fine, it seems like it was only the columns that had something in it clogged that didn't work.

I don't really pay attention to the colors past the most obvious ones, I just remember number of clicks vs. data value of the color. I use the colors to judge "is it something vaguely similar".

(but then I'm weird like that)

Yeah, I tend to count clicks - because like many other men, I don't have names for colors other than the basic 8 crayola or tagging the word 'light' in front of it.

;)
