If you have EE3 then you could minium stone cobble/sand/dirt into grass underground to try and get passive mobs to spawn.

Lost as always
He already stated earlier in the thread that Nether Portals don't work, Twilight Forest portals don't work, and the primary problem preventing him from escaping was a complete lack of cows and leather to make books with. I can't think of any nice way of saying "Don't people bother to read the thread?"
I stated that it was the only 'legitimate' ticket home, not that it was a viable option. Try taking your own advice ;)

Nevakanezah was the primary person I was replying to, and you did say
Yea, a Star Fissure would've been your only legitimate ticket back home, except maybe building a nether portal. Not even sure if that would work, though.
Which was already stated to not work. So, no, I've been paying attention just fine.

Can dungeon chests contain the materials for books? I don't think so in vanilla, but their treasure tables have been modified quite a bit by FTB. Another option would be to find an NPC village or Stronghold, and break the bookshelves for books. All of these can be very difficult to find of course...

Unless the age you traveled to had the villages symbol, villages won't spawn, so no raiding the villagers houses for bookshelves. The only possible other way to get books would be to cure a zombie villager and hope for a librarian since you can trade for both books and bookshelves, but that would be hard to do without the potions or access to a brewing stand and other items from the nether.

From http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Zombie

These zombie villagers can be 'healed' by throwing a '1:07' splash potion of weakness onto them, then giving them a Normal golden apple by right-clicking on the zombie villager with it. You will hear a loud hissing sound and the Zombie Villager will begin to shudder. Wait around 3 minutes ( They must be protected from attacks and sun damages ).

I've never taken the time to do this myself, but it is supposedly possible.
