server says restarting in 10, next thing we know it says shutting down and to come back later. (ign LexiLou1022)
so why did the server just shut down?

Without log and other information we have no idea.
I can make a guess though: whatever you use to host it either shut it down because it thinks it is going to crash from a memory leak(not likely but such functionality could be pretty sweet)
Or it just is configured to shutdown every so often and reboot to clean up memory(depending on what you use this is very,very likely)

I have a few servers that I run and I do once or twice daily reboots. They are automated and the server is usually back up in a few minutes. Not sure if that is what is going on in your case though.
