So, I'm fairly new to modded minecraft. Should I wait for 1.8?

So, I'm pretty new, not completely. However considering I'm new, I'd rather not make my introduction harder by learning two sets of mods (1.7 and 1.8) at once. Do you think its worth it to simply wait for a good 1.8 modpack? If so, do any exists already?
Keep in mind, I don't really care about the amount of mods in comparison from 1.7 to 1.8. I only care about how long it will take me to be able to have a stable, as in, not to worried about having to restart, modded 1.8 pack in comparison to going into 1.7. I also would really like to try the newest stuff, as from what I've seen from the new stuff I prefer it over 1.7.

Alright, that should be everything. Hopefully this wasn't asked before, and this thread will help other people with the same descision.

Sincerely,
Drake

The larger individual mods are really only just beginning to move to 1.8, and some may wait for a stable forge release for 1.9 and skip 1.8. As a player who started back with 1.4.7 (vanilla MC, I think I waited for 1.5 packs after I discovered FTB), my guess is we have another 6-12 months to go before we see reasonably stable packs for 1.8, maybe longer for finished HQM or skyblock style packs. The experienced mod and pack devs may have a more accurate estimate for you. The ones actually doing the work will tell you it will be ready when it is ready, with no ETAs until it is ready.

If you can hold out that long, play 1.9 vanilla MC to get used to those new mechanics. If you can't live without the mods, play 1.7.10 knowing it is only temporary. I think you still have time to get comfortable with the current set before making the switch.

Ok, thanks for the thorough answer. IK it will be ready when its ready, I just don't want to have to leave too soon. I would still like a more thorough answer from those who, as you said, would know better about the topic, but for now I think I feel comfortable with staying in 1.7.

Yeah, 1.7 is pretty awesome, and honestly, I expect a wholesale skip of actual 1.8 mod packs in favor of jumping straight to 1.9, if only because it's supposed to be a much easier port from 1.8 to 1.9 than it was from 1.7 to 1.8.

Personally, if I were just starting my Modded addiction, I would cut teeth on 1.7. Packs are stable, wikis are as up to date as wikis get, and most of the populace has answers if you run into trouble. Since there continues to be talk about mods skipping 1.8 in lieu of jumping straight to 1.9, there may never truely be stable 1.8 packs. If you're just beginning now, the content available for 1.7 will more than last you until 1.9 is up and running.

You will be waiting a while. Just play whatever, restarting is a fact of life in MC.

So you say you are new to modded mc...
When you first start playing modded, you may be overwhelmed by all of the new items/mechanics/whatever, you need to figure out how everything works, what the mod author intended, etc.
If you delay this for the next version, you will still have to go through that phase. It is better to start playing, and learning, right now.

Sure, things will be different in the next mc version, but from 1.7 modded to 1.8 modded is still a smaller learning curve than starting modded from vanilla. I say; start playing now and don't hold your breath until the next version is ready.

^This. You will at least learn how things work together and it will help you understand and maybe appreciate changes and additions made to whichever version you do decide on.
