If you are not keen on EE3 as it stands at the moment, there is a replacement called Energy Manipulator. It brings back the Condensor from EE2, but it allows you to configure the "EMC" values of items, the recipe of the block, and also an efficiency rating (so that it's not 100% conversion).
I'm using that at the moment, configured for raw materials only, with my personal idea of EMC values based on item rarity and usage, at 90% efficiency, plus a recipe that requires various items to push it into a mid game item, instead of something you can get from the start after one mining trip.
There's always alternate options out there if you go looking.
