Also doesn't suck up many mod items, especially machinery and such. Honestly is it difficult to open a bag for 5 seconds when stuff isn't picking up anymore?

My comment was originally directed at someone who was saying that silk touch was better than Fortune because you have three times less ores and stuff to carry around. Which all go into a Miner's Backpack juuuuust fine.

After all, that's kinda sorta one of those things... yanno, this being a mod pack, the guys who put it together kinda went into the config and made it work?

I am not able to enchant anything with a Silktouch book, how in the world did you do that? it just says X, i did try it with the gravisuite Miningdrill and with the two ic2 ones.
I wasted the book now on some shears to get cobweb c.c

I just put them both in the anvil and it worked just like it does with vanilla tools.

tool first, then enchant. Shouldn't cost more than 6 levels to apply a book to something.

Sounds like I might finally use the drills, simply because it doesn't seem too overpowered considering vanilla tools were better due to enchants, imo. Did someone say that alblaka or someone was working on enchant equivalents for the tools? Maybe greg with his rockcutter n all that. Would really like to see that but in the mean time this could work.

Meh... made my mining laser on my mindcrack server anyway, just need a lap pack of some level and I'll never need anything but a silk touch again anyway XD

Wow, a Diamond Drill with Silk Touch and Efficiency IV manages to keep the speed of a Diamond Pick even when out of power. Doesn't lose the Silk Touch effect either, of course. There's not much reason to go back or send it through an ender pouch to recharge it like that.

This is why I won't be using it in my world. Nothing wrong with people using it like that if they so wish but it's not for me.

compare it to a diamond pick with silk touch and efficiency IV or it's hardly a reasonable comparison (heck add unbreaking for the extra setup cost)

It's slower than an Efficiency IV Diamond Pick, but honestly an unenchanted Diamond Pick always seemed fast enough to me, except on Obsidian.

I think it's a fair comparison. A Diamond Pick (in effect) at the worst of times which lasts forever and has zero negatives is heaven-tier stuff and this is ignoring what it can do when charged up. If the depleted drill had to be repaired or required maintenance then fair enough but it's the lack of a down-side which puts me off. Again, it's personal preference and people can do whatever they like with the concept of it.

If you're really concerned about that, then don't ever use a quarry, macerator, heck- any of the machines are overpowered when compared to the vanilla way of doing things. Most of them far more extreme compared to vanilla than this enchanted drill/pickaxe comparison.

He wasn't saying it's "overpowered when compared to the vanilla way of doing things." He was saying that it has no drawbacks, even when out of power, and that the no drawbacks part is what bothers him about it.

Being slower than a diamond enchanted pick after it's charge runs out (the part you keep ignoring out despite my nudging) is a drawback, and a reason why I still don't like them. If I have a lap pack I'd prefer to be putting that energy into a mining laser, if I don't have mining laser/bat pack then the amount of hits on the drill really is small and I'd prefer an all inclusive enchanted pick, as after my laser runs out I doubt I'm going to have room for 4000 more blocks in most scenarios. The drill just doesn't last long enough for me.

You can act all hurt that you are not allowed an opinion, but you cannot assert something and then act the victim when you get called out on it. The drill has drawbacks for people who mine differently, deal with that fact before claiming things about others. The irony that your previous post was about preference is not lost on me, by the way.
