So, I've got my tier 5 skeleton soul shard finally, and I've been trying to figure out a good easy way to kill them and only get the bones. Before in ultimate I just used transposers and pneumatic tubing with a filter for destroying the arrows. Now we don't have redpower in Unleashed. I've tried using MFR's Grinders but I'm not a huge fan. Does anyone else have an idea for a good farm or could someone give me some suggestions on other ways to do this? Thanks

MFR Item routers sending the arrows into a place where they are destroyed, maybe? Diamond Transport Pipe from Buildcraft?
I think one could use a Force Pipe with a item card that destroys arrows (if you have DartCraft installed, anyway).

I do suggest using the MFR Grinder, though, as the Liquid Mob Essence is pretty handy in MFR for a couple things.

Well, this skelly farm is for steam boilers. I was using MFR grinders with force pipes creating the bonemeal then pushed into bio reactors creating biofuel and into steam boilers. However, I'm running out of energy because I'm only sitting on 8 solar panels atm and it's not enough to build up the biofuel for the steam boilers fast enough. I'm really looking for something I don't have to power that isn't too difficult. In Ultimate I just had them dropping like 30 blocks onto the transposers, and I know I can do that with obsidian pipes but holy cow that would get all mixed up lol

That still works fine. Just put a layer of obsidian pipes, then a layer of iron pipes to direct all the items to one corner. put a diamond pipe there to sort out anything you don't want.

MFR Conveyor Belts and Extra Utilities Iron Spikes. And also recommended by posters before me, diamond pipe to filter wanted drops to your storage and the rest into void pipe.

Personally I like the look of dropping unwanted items into a lava pit instead of the void pipe. I just drop what I don't want from my ae system into a chest then pump them out with wooden pipe and gate, pipe it up high and drop down a glass shaft to lava. Let it rain. Lol.

drop the skellies onto conveyor belts, make them all feed into one spot, then have it pass out of the drop area, put an item router under the last conveyor belt, and have it set to only take bones.
put a block of lava, or a piece of netherrack on fire, or even a cactus on the end, so that anything not accepted by the router is going to be get destroyed.

Hypnotized has a really good design for this in his FTB Unleashed series.

Fast forward to 20:00mins to see it in action. In a later video he replaced the obsidian pipes for collecting the items with additional Conveyor Belts and an MFR Item Collector.

conveyor belts are awesome. they act very much like obsidian pipes, and they can even feed directly into pipes if so desired.
I use more and more conveyor belts in all my builds nowadays. they are just so darn flexible, with the only limitation being that they aren't very convenient for upwards vertical transport.

Hypno's new series, Hypno Hermitcraft FTB is going through this type of construction right now. He's got a Wither Skelly farm going that uses some kind of machine for the killing now, and it's set up with 3 spawning areas (1 in use atm) that uses Mystcraft books to transport the mobs to a centralized killing pit.

In Ultimate, I used pneumatic pipes to barrels. Seed the barrels, and put an overflow chest at the end. From the chest I used a BC wood pipe and an autarchic (sp?) gate to a diamond pipe. Anything I want to keep goes to another chest, rest goes to void. I thought about how I would modify this going forward to eliminate redpower, and decided that diamond pipes would probably offer the best results. The other thing I would do is replace the barrels with the MFR equivalent as they are a bit more customizable.

you can run conveyor belts on top of the barrels, and get the same effect as the pneumatic tubes had. if a barrel accepts the item going over it, it will be inserted into the barrel. if not, then it will just move along to the next one in line. you can also do the final sorting with item routers, heck. you can even sort out the enchanted stuff, then further sort those into desirable enchants, and undesirable ones, followed by a machine for disenchanting the stuff you don't want, and turn it into additional liquid XP (mob juice) before burning the leftovers you don't care to keep.
MFR is a very powerful mod. maybe even more powerful in some sense than redpower even. especially since you can make it sort enchanted items as well. (there is even an auto enchanter for making lots and lots of enchanted books)

I can't seem to get this to work. You just put the belts along the tops of a line of barrels? For me the items just keep going down the belts.

Here is a compact/simple collection system for people using the drop kill method. Just set it up in the middle of the drop zone.

Just 4 blocks, a thaumstatic magnetizer, an obsidian pipe, a redstone block, and an enderchest.
I set this up in a few minutes when I needed a lot of gunpowder. The magnetizer placed beneath the obsidian pipe pulls all the drops to the pipe so you don't have to extend the pipe's range with power. I imagine this uses some aura but it didn't seem to be a problem while getting 100k gunpowder.

you need the item collector, so it's barrel at the bottom, then item collector, and a conveyor belt on top. forgot about those, you get 8 item collectors for the price of 4 plastic, a machine frame (if TE recipes are enabled), and a chest.

buildcraft insertion pipes cost 9 lapis, 2 tin and a piece of glass per 8.
