How exactly would that be done? I did not know Azanor had that as a config option in his Thaumcraft files. Besides, once you know what a Hungry Node really is, it's a lot better to just keep it's effects and turn it into a very powerful wand recharge node, after feeding it a lot of primal aspects. :D In other words, Azanor designed them for you to exploit them to their fullest potential as a recharge station, so grab some obsidian, surround it, and start making plans for the recharge station! :D

If you have no need for a Hungry Node wand recharge station, simply capture a Tainted Node and release it nearby, wait a while until the Tainted Node turns the Hungry Node into a Tainted Node, and after it's effects disappear, you can then safely approach your gravestone and get your gear back.

There is no config for turning off Hungry Nodes; only a config to disable their effects.
@asb3pe has no interest in using TC in his current server/world, so capturing or even tainting the node isn't really an option.

I wonder if you could explode the node...like, with actual explosives. Maybe a nuke or a nova cataclysm or something. A RoC EMP would do...something. Still wanna test that.

Then why is he playing it? Maybe Thaumcraft isn't an option to him, but since he did want his stuff back, he could always enlist the help of those that do play Thaumcraft on the server he's on to help him get his gear back. My point is that options exist that he and his friends can explore to get his gear back, and he doesn't have to consider it something to abandon forever. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Also, these options don't involve turning Hungry Nodes off, they can be done within the existing Thaumcraft mechanics, therefore the server's hard mode won't be affected as a result. That sounds like a win-win situation to me! :)

I like how the thread is derailed. You can also break nodes like you would break blocks so if a hungry node is undesired, you can carefully figure out a way to approach it (probably with lots of obsidian, or maybe pistons pushing cobblestone or something) and remove it by hand (not sure how far away it damages you from, though, so it might not work if they can damage you from more than a couple blocks away).

You play too much Minecraft if you have every item in the game (I haven't reached this point yet) ;)

You know you haven't played enough if you have no idea what a 'hungry node' is. I think the only remotely Thaumcrafty thing I've done is shove silverwood leaves in an RC fermenter to make sludge.

In my case, you know you haven't played major modpacks enough since 1.6 if you barely know what a RC fermenter is, or that it takes silver wood leaves.
