Hi!
I have a computer that i am not using and laptop. I want to play modified direwolf20 mod pack and i heard that it can be better if I set server on computer and play on laptop. Is it true that it has better performance than playing on one computer?
In the past I had a problem when I had huge amount of mods and advanced world with many items.

Just my opinion, but it's never better to play anything on a laptop.

Even Minesweeper lags out on a laptop.

If the desktop has enough ram and a fast enough multi-core CPU it's possible to dedicate a core or two to run a server in the background and the client on another dedicated core.

Highly dependent on the laptop. I use my Macbook Pro when away from home. Works perfect, not a single issue.

Running a server has the benefits of chunkloading. Other than that, if you're playing single player, doesn't matter.

It does matter. In SP you run both the server and client on the CPU core. With a server you offload the server part onto another core or a separate machine. Which in turn will increase your FPS and keep the TPS at 20ms. The drawback comes in the fact that you need enough memory to run both. On a machine with 16GB of ram and a decent CPU you should be able to run both.

I was assuming that he was using a relatively modern desktop... if so, it will have no problem.

I have just little lags now and like 15-20 fps. Laptop and computer are not modern. But computer has 8gb of ram and laptop has a good graphic card. I can make new network and connect them but I don't know if it is worth to do ;)

@Fazolollo it would be if we knew what the specs were for both the laptop and desktop. Specifically how fast is the CPU (number of cores really doesn't matter with Minecraft) how much physical RAM you and what graphics card. Also what OS are you running? Personally I use windows for client machine and Ubuntu Linux for my server.

Also, if you want to run Direwolf20 1.10.2 (you didn't specify which version) you will need a minimum of 6GB ram in the laptop... Minimum of 2GB depending on the OS and video ram (unless your GPU has separate dedicated ram) plus 4GB for the pack. Any textures beyond default will need yet more ram.

Specs of Computer (for server):
Intel core 2 duo 3,0Ghz
8gb ram
SSD 128 gb

Laptop (for playing):
Intel core i3 2,6Ghz
8Gb ram
nvidia geforce 635m 2gb

So what do you think?

It should be doable. The server on the computer will be the easy part. Getting the client to run on that laptop might be more difficult. After you launch the pack you will need to close everything else that is running. The pack will need between 4 to 5 GB to run which doesn't leave much for the OS (which I'm assuming is windows).

In general it is much easier to have a computer capable of running games or resource intensive programs on a pc because of size constraints, but it is still possible that a random laptop can be more powerful than another random pc
