So I'm trying to get our small server going with FTB. The problem I am having is that I can't seem to find FTB server version 1.4.2? I know how to use the launcher to filter for the server version, specifying 1.4.2, but that installs 1.4.5 (presently too far ahead of the modpack). Am I missing something completely obvious? I even found the version chooser in the edit modpack tab, nothing available. Everytime I google this I just get loads of 'come join out 1.4.2 FTB server' results, enfuriating much?

When you filter out the server version the pick list underneath shows you the available downloads for each server mod pack, simply choose FTB beta pack A and click download server mod pack. If you have universal electricity or magic world selected you will download the server for those modpacks.

Thanks for the reply, but as I mentioned (and following your steps), installing that version of the server (stated as 1.4.2) actually installs 1.4.5 according to the multiplayer selection screen in minecraft.

I've just tested it and it downloads 1.4.2, so you are doing something wrong..

Are you by any chance downloading the magic pack? If so, that pack is 1.4.5.
FTBBetaA is the pack that's currently in 1.4.2

Thanks, it definitely wasn't the magic pack. However you did remind me that I was able to log onto the server with the magic client as this is 1.4.5. None of the mod items were available as the item ids are obviously different because I was using the FTB modpack. I hope that makes sense, it seems to confirm that the server is running 1.4.5. Something is definitely going wrong. What stipulates the version? Presumably the jar? Anyways, I guess this will resolve when modpack updates, which I don't suppose will be too long.

OK. Problem discovered. Turns out that the Server controller (Multicraft) does not support FTB very easily, I was trying to use the default settings which forced a default jar to be loaded insteaded of the FTB jar, hence why it appeared as 1.4.5. For anybody else with a similar problem this thread may help:

http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/having-trouble-with-multicraft.1643/

But it basically look like you will need more advanced (read costly) access to server controls.

Thanks for the help and good luck to anybody else with the same problem.

Hmmm, after talking with the guy who set the server up, it turns out that we do have the ability to use modded jars, despite not having all the fancy server controls. So here is what I did. With Filezilla I deleted everything on the server (except white-list, ops etc). Then using the multicraft client I allowed it to set up a 'default' server. DL and extract FTB modpack, in the modpack folder change name of the FTB Beta A.jar to minecraft_server.jar. Once again using Filezilla I copied the 4 folders in the modpack folder onto the main server directory. Then I opened the jar folder on the server and replaced the jar in their with the one I renamed in the modpack. Delete the world folder if you want a fresh world with modded world gen.
That should be it. The weird thing is is that the multicraft control shows the server as offline, despite being able to log on and play.

I think I might try and convince the guy to change providers before RP2 comes out and we take FTB seriously. I dont really trust multicraft.

Again. Multicraft is a pain. It wont work properly with modded server since it cannot read the console correctly.
