Hello everyone, just curious on a bit of feedback on an idea I have. Me and a few friends have been doing MC tournaments off and on for a while and I'm thinking that it would be fun to get the general population involved. I'm curious if there is any support for such an idea. Let me know what you think.

It's a 1 month long tournamen to collect the most diamonds no rules other than no actual cheating, forming teams is allowed but only one persons diamonds will be counted, $5 entry, winner gets $50,2nd place $10,3rd $5. 20 players total.

There's obviously going to be a few more rules relating to server stability and handling downtime if any, an entire website would be made to show server logs, forums, news, etc.

Do you guys thing there would be good community support for such an event?

Sounds intresting, but would be very hard to moderate, its really just who gets the most eu/t and uu matters everything (Unless you get someone mad who wants to bee LOADS of diamonds (its funner than you would think) )
Also money is just iffy, most people wont play if its a cost event, like seriously, who would trust someone really new on a forum about minecraft ^^

Cut off the money and i think it would be a cool thing to do!

EDIT: Or a enderman soulshard with minium stones......

I've been doing tournaments like this for years in other games. The fact I'm new on this particular forum won't stop me from getting players although I'm sure the ones from this board in particular would do the best. Just trying to figure out if such an idea would work well.

I personally don't play free tournaments, hence why I won't make one that's free. And paying for the server isn't free either lol. (although I can host my own in my companies rack, for simplicitys sake I will rent one.)

btw this would be ran/sponsored by a real company (with a verified PayPal business account handling transactions, $5 is stupidly cheap so I don't think anyone would care anyhow..)

as for moderation, there is not much to be done, it's essentially anything goes. (some things like solar panels and nukes would be disabled just because of server crashing goodness.)

P. S. Thanks for the fast reply! Really hoping to see if this pans out or not.

So it's a contest on who builds the largest scrapbox lottery? :)

That's not much of a challenge with ftb. Especially if you use ultimate. The first person lucky enough to find the pages for a diamond tendril mystcraft age wins. Not to mention all the automated mining, ee3 and uu matter.

Things can be disabled, and gregtech can be enabled too.

Lol, that's one method.

It's more or less in how you get started and scale. We've come witwith a few viable methods to it.

Don't forget with it being anything goes, pvp/griefing/theft is a big concern to hide from lol.

One month for who gets most diamonds is really just who has most time free during their month/who can build the hugest scrapbox lottery or most insane EU/t thingy.

If you're going to have something like this each round needs to be far shorter, tops two days.

Yes Greg tech would be enabled, mystcraft would most likely be disabled for server stability anyhow. There are lots of Op ways to get diamonds in FTB, seeing which ones people try is what makes it fun.

And getting diamonds is not hard, I'm aware. However, getting more than the other 19 people is.

Not trying to completely shoot down your idea. I've even thought of recruiting a bunch of streamers and doing a challenge with a custom pack.

But it needs to be a challenge. Just a race for diamonds isn't much of of one. No matter how it's accomplished.

Now, maybe make it a non-pvp hardcore server on hard difficulty to get the most diamonds in 7 days. That's a challenge, and one I would possibly join.

Only thing I would change in the config is preventing the crafting of book binders. That way, people can still use linking books for travel, bit can't make ages.

In FTB Maybe because...

A- Scrapbox Lottery
B- MystCraft Page Hunt
C- UU Matter Production

B won't likely happen.

As for the other methods, we usually end up using all of them. Having just one factory running isn't going to give you an edge.

Plus, gregtech makes UU very expensive.

that sir, is a brilliant idea for a challenge.

My original plan was to start with this, then when it's done do another based around survival (hardcore, no pvp, using monster apocalypse for super hard mobs that dig/tunnel/bridge, gets increasingly difficult until only one person is left alive.

I've got a lot of ideas, and I might look into sponsorships instead of a fee to players

Yeah, hardcore sounds like a better idea, or buying extra lives for a (large) amount of diamonds.

Thing is, people need to feel that they can still win it all the way through. Just "get most diamonds in a month" will mean after like a week it's already been determined to 99% who's gonna win.

However, I think "most diamonds" is a bad goal to begin with. It's better to make a few different goals with different scorings, so there's several ways to win.

Say, 5 points for getting most diamonds, five points for being the one to kill the ender dragon, five points for being the one to kill the wither, five points for being first to quantum armor, and either hardcore or you lose a point every time you die.

With different goals, people won't feel overshadowed and you actually need to think about how to prioritize rather than everyone just trying to build the largest scrapbox factory (which is probably the most efficient way to get diamonds, if nothing else because it at the same time gives tons of other resourcers that can be used to make a supplementary UU-generator).

In the world of mods, "Get the most diamonds" is no longer practical.
It's more like
"Get the most Fusion Reactors"
or
"Have the best Power Infrastructure"
or
"Have the most reliable AE system"
etc. etc.

Keep in mind that sabotage, stealing, and PVP is going to be allowed. So if somebody's ahead, build a frame machine that's camouflaged light blue with the sky and fly over them, dropping TNT/nukes as you go. That or get some Ars Magica/TC3 research and break into their diamond factory and sabotage it, stealing their diamonds at the same time.

There are plenty of ways to remotely grief, too. Like putting unstable ingots in an ender chest that's linked up to somebody's network, or effing up their wireless redstone frequencies (You can see private ones with a private sniffer I think).

I'd go with number 2!

Still, this seems like a bad idea, how do you know they aren't in creative mode spawning in stacks and stacks of diamonds and building a base so it looks legit? Only way around is for them to record (not everyone can), stream (not everyone can), or have everyone on the same server (diamond thieves). No matter what you do, nothing works!

Check out infernal mobs by atomic Stryker. Setting the configs up on this is easy and you can make the supermobs drop whatever loot you want.you can also force specific mobs to always be infernal (like the enderdragon or wither.)

This is actually hard to accomplish. You would need to have admins on 24/7 to verify when someone reaches a goal or make sure they didn't cheat.
