Hello, I've been having some problems trying to connect to my friends server. Upon loading my server list within the game client, the server will show "Polling" for a few seconds then show "Can't reach server" with a red X. This happens every time if I haven't played the game for a certain amount of time. A simple fix to this is restarting my computer. However, restarting my computer each time I want to play is quite annoying. I'm not sure what could be not allowing my computer to connect until I restart but these are the things I've tried:

Disabling anti-virus software (running COMODO)
Disabling Windows firewall
Placing my computer into my router's DMZ
Opening any ports related to Minecraft (even with my computer in the DMZ)
Opening ports on my Windows firewall (even with firewall disabled)
Allowing any program to do with Hamachi or Minecraft through my Windows firewall (even with firewall disabled)
Deleting my servers.dat file and re-adding the server
Direct connecting to the server
Deleting all of FTB and re-downloading it
Re-adding the VPN to Hamachi

So far, none of these have worked. The only thing that ever works is restarting my computer. The only thing I can conclude from that is that there is some other software on my computer that could possibly be blocking it that I have opened up later as I usually have to start FTB as soon as my computer restarts for it to work. I have tried to search for information on this issue but it seems the only thing I can find is relevant to someone who is actually hosting a server, whereas I am not. I have no control over the server.

In case any of this is relevant, I have the following hardware:

Router: Linksys WRT54G (with up-to-date firmware)
Modem: ARRIS / Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0
Processor: Intel Haswell i5 4670k
GPU: GTX 770
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero
Operating System: Windows 8 (64-bit)

My Operating System is on my Solid State Drive and my FTB is on a separate storage drive

If anyone can think of what would be causing this issue, I'd love to hear. Thank you.

ETA: Today I had my connection drop while I was actually on the server giving me a java connection error and then the server did the same Polling issue. My console reported this:

I never said it was any more important than anyone else's. Just because I bump doesn't mean people have to reply. As far as your actual advice, if I was content with restarting my computer, I wouldn't have made the thread in the first place...

Lets start with some basics. Are you running the server and your client on the same machine? If so, can you get another machine on your home network to test and see if you can connect to the server that way? That will tell us if the server is up and running and there is no firewall issues with your server. Once that is tested the next step will be start checking the router and the port forwarding.

By bumping your thread, you are putting it to the top of the list, ignoring everyone else who is also patiently waiting for someone to help them. If you're going to bump your post, go give some useful advice to all of the people you conveniently skipped over while getting to the top of the list.

As for my actual advise, how often do you restart your computer regularly? My bet is still on your computer needing a break.

It's not my server.. I am connecting to a friend's server. The server is always up and running. Nobody else has issues connecting to it. I am able to connect to it sometimes.

No, my computer does not "need a break"... It's a brand new, clean machine that gets restarted daily. I maintain my operating system and do not allow any bloatware to infect my hard drive. There is nothing I can gain from restarting my computer other than my connection issue with this server.

See now, if you had said that in the first place, I wouldn't have suggested it.

Do all of this, as it's written, don't deviate at all.

Then post your console log to pastebin.com and link the paste.

That error you posted in the OP, read this, since it's the only thing I can offer you on it:

Yeah, I can load mods just fine.. I can play on Single Player all day. I don't know what the problem is or I wouldn't be here, the problem of Polling and then Can't reach server still persists.

So, I have finally figured out what was causing my connection issues and just figured I'd reply in case someone else has this issue and wants an actual solution other than restarting your computer because it "might need a break".

For me, the issue lied in Hamachi's Virtual Network Interface. If you start up your computer's Device Manager and go to Network Adapters you should see LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Network Interface, but for me it was not installed. Apparently, Windows can actually fail to install the Interface properly. I guess it was half-ass installed, as it would be up when I restart my computer but not any other time and as I updated my OS to 8.1, it officially stopped working and I couldn't log onto my friend's server at all. So, I just uninstalled Hamachi (deleting all profile information) and reinstalled it and now the Virtual Network Interface is properly installed, allowing me to connect at anytime.

To check for this, connect to your Hamachi server and notice if there are any yellow-!-triangle-warning signs next to anyone's name. You can right click their name and go to Details, and read "VPN status" which will give "error" then you can go to the Settings tab and read the full cause of the error which will say something about you not being able to connect to the Peer due to a problem with the network adapter. This will generally indicate something is wrong with your Virtual Network Interface and you can follow the steps on this page for troubleshooting: http://help.logmein.com/SelfServiceKnowledgeRenderer?type=FAQ&id=kA030000000DGHQCA4.

Good luck.

Because your advice is worthless. Obviously, if I can't connect to a server there is a connection issue. It wasn't directly due to connection in traditional sense either, it was simply a software malfunction.

Sure whatever. I'm not the one asking for help from a forum full of nobodies.
