Sweet info, mate. But...

No idea what that reason is. They connect ME networks at a massive energy cost and infrastructure cost, including a need to chunkload both ends of the network in totality.

I see it as a bonus not needing to build a second network. It also means I can have my main house, run / fly / cart over to a secondary base with a nuclear reactor or such, and still have full access to my system without having to pull disks or anything like that. Plus, the structure looks badass.

That would be a Yordle, likely Rumble as he's the champion who I saw as on the loading splash screen after that update. My bestest champ no less.
