I was reading a post on Reddit about the 'Sacred Rubber Sapling', and no one had any idea how much one would actually yield - so I built a server just to test it out. I planted a sacred rubber sapling and let it grow - then I set 5 chunk loaders loading 10 chunk radius each spread out so that most or all of the tree was loaded. I set up a ME system with a bunch of drives filled with 64K storage cells and harvested the tree with a MFR harvster. It was all powered by a creative energy cell.

If you were to plant one of these and harvest it with the MFR harvester, you would never need to look for rubber again. ever. E.V.E.R.

The results are it filled up about 9.5 64k storage cells. The yield was 2,338,604 rubber and rubber wood and 189,979 rubber sapplings.

Just FYI in case anyone's interested.

I'm still not 100% clear on why someone would put that into their mod in the first place, but thanks for running the numbers!

Edit: also, FYI, there's a "creative cell" or something similarly named for infinite storage capacity in an ME system. Of course, then we'd have no idea of how many actual drives the tree would take up, but in case you ever wanted to do something pike this again, an ME chest with a creative cell will hold infinity of whatever (though it may still be limited to 64 types of items).

Post this on reddit then!!! It will be awesome if I did this in my world, sadly I have a average pc, running ftb on medium...

Actually the infinite cell dosent work like that it you preformat with a item or multiple items then put it in a me network and it will put in 2B of the item that you formatted it with and the number won't go down ever

Very nice! I hope those ME drives were pre-formatted first to allow for maximum storage capacity for these things, though!

I think he would of added more storage as he goes along, but anyway why would it matter if those drives were pre formatted, I would be absolutely freakin delirious with that much wood and rubber, but still, efficiency is everything!

That must have been a "small" tree. I ran a similar experiment a few days ago, which yielded a tree 512 blocks across and yielded 6,604,945 rubber wood and rubber(12.6 x 64k storage cells each). The sapling count was 492,864 alone.

One type per drive will store more of that item than two+ types worth of items per drive.

It would matter because preformatting those drives to allow only one of those three items would allow for vastly more storage then if you used unformatted drives. Storage math for AE works this way. For every TYPE of item in a cell, the amount of BYTES per ITEM in it goes up. At 1 TYPE, the amount of BYTES per ITEM is 1.

At first I was like WOAH, then I was like hmm, this is a lot to take in, so what your saying is if I set up a me system for my tree farm, if I preformated the drives to hold the items, I would get more items in the drives then if I was to add additional storage everytime it gets full?

Like I mentioned "efficiency is everything!!!"
It could have been the difference between using 9.5 64k cells or only 3 lesser cells, for example.
*Note: I barely use AE so these numbers are likely way off, as one would expect of asspull numbers.[DOUBLEPOST=1397780113][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, this is why Preformatting drives to hold less types of items is good if you expect a lot of those types. And if they are useful, I guess then one won't want to chuck them into a condenser thingy and aim for a pair of singularities.

When you have nearly as much wood and apples as I have, then placing a storage cell in a condenser is really not much of a biggie.

Oh, so you have over 10k of each? Trust me, those singularities are not cheap on items.
For some reason I want to say about 52,000 items for a single Singularity.

EDIT: Heh, no. 256k items per Singularity.

Ah, nice to see you found some exact numbers. So yeah, not cheap at all. Guess you need to spend more time with those farms, @GoldenGamerUK before you can make those singularities.

Specifically, from here. Those things are extremely expensive and for a good reason.
