So, there are lots of tutorials out there for starting out with Rotarycraft, and plenty of help with endgame Reactorcraft, but not so much for the midgame. What I'd like have is a little advice getting *sustainable* jet power under my belt so that I'm not trying to jump straight from steam/gas engines to nukes. The less AE used, the better, and I don't want to use bees, MFR lasers, or magical crops at all.

By sustainable, I generally mean that I can mine, grow, and process the materials for power with the power produced, and it can be run more or less continually without a lot of babysitting.

a boring machine in the nether will get you the netherack and maybe the soul sand if you place it well
a blaze spawner will get you blaze powder
a slime spawner will get you slime balls so magma cream
a boring machine in the overworld or a wither skelly farm will get you coal
two fermenter, one for yeast, one for sludge, dirt well either you get it from mining/boring machine or you can automate it with IC2. Sugar from a sugar cane farm (MFR) and leaves can be done with MFR again.

For spawers, either RoC or MFR will work

IMHO, you should get into a small reactor. It can be self sustainable :)

Erm, did you edit out my name?

But @madnewmy covered everything rather well. For the spawners, I would use the RotaryCraft ones when you can, just be sure you have a method to quickly kill the spawns.

By excluding bees and magical crops, you've already denied yourself 100% renewability. :p

Anyway, I've found that the only problem is the soul sand, since you may not get enough of that with regular mining. This may make regular mining trips into the nether necessary. However, I should mention that jet fuel is a very efficient fuel, and its production is efficient as well. You will get abour 350 buckets from a stack of each ingredient. That will let you run a gas turbine at full power for about 35 minutes, which is enough to run several thousand blocks of ore through an extractor. Also, once you have a little jet fuel, you can use it to power your fractionizer with a microturbine. That will make more jet fuel ultra-fast. With a sufficient stock of ingredients, it takes about a minute to make a kilobucket.

Having said that, an automated supply sufficient to keep a gas turbine running continuously may be hard to come by, but I haven't found a reason to keep one running, given how fast it does things, so that doesn't really matter.

Since you specifically only excluded MFR lasers, use an MFR planter+harvester+sludge boiler. You don't even need to actually use whatever it harvests, you just want to generate large quantities of sludge since the sludge boiler will create a set of random items from it - one of those being soul sand. Then all you'll need from the Nether is netherrack, which is easy to come by.

Nice. I tend to forget about the sludge boiler when not playing skyblocks.

Welcome the the new Feed The Beast Forums. We have created this forum as a place for people to gather together and discuss the Feed The Beast Mod Pack and The Feed The Beast Map Pack and anything that might be related. We have created areas for you to talk about the mod pack and the individual mods, the FTB map pack, the texture packs also have areas for everyone to use. We have also Provided a place for people streaming or creating youtube videos of FTB related content to promote themselves. We have an area for third party FTB server admins to advertise or otherwise promote their FTB servers. Finally of course no good forum is complete without sections for Off Topic and Other Games.

As to future plans, well we have many of those. The current FTB team is an exceptional group of people who it is a genuine priviledge to be able to work with. However I do not intend for this to be the limits of the team and I would love to be able to include more people who have the necessary desire and ability in the team. With new people being added into the Map Build team, we will also be looking for people to help on the admin side of the project such as moderators and in the appropriate circumstances web admin and graphics design. For anyone interested, there will be a section on the forums where you can leave details about what you can offer.

With the new custom FTB launcher, we can provide players the ability to easily install not just only Minecraft Mods, but also maps and saves and also installation of high quality texture packs The creation of the FTB Mod Pack will finally give people a standarised config template from which to build and create new worlds and maps with, so we will be providing support in one form or another of third party maps. My hope is that exceptional third party maps may even be added into the launcher. Having one standardised config file will give the map makers the chance to make maps using mods and easily distribute them to a wide audience.

Expanding the Map Build Team will finally let us create and distribute all the different map styles that people want whilst maintaining our desire to keep the standards of creativity high. FTB maps look simple compared to a lot of others, however a lot of planning goes into the maps in both looks and balance. Hopefully we can maintain and improve on this in the future.

Anyways as is normal for me, this post has gone on longer than I expected, so I think I will end it here.

Slowpoke.
