Respectfully, your experience is limited to school.

I can already tell you its paying off for you. Even if all they did was make you read for 2 hours straight, that's good enough. Unless you're brutally leaning on your auto-correct, your English and grammar are excellent.

Its not about learning new words, its about ingraining language itself as a tool. It makes it easier for you to vary your vocabulary to a specific task, understand others, and frankly make yourself look smart.
My English classes, grades three through twelve, were always "here is a book. Now write a 10 page essay on how the author's description of the cracked road surface is a metaphor for the moral decay of society" - i.e. modern artist training class.

As an English major: I continue to see dismissive statements regarding my choice of study. Should I dismiss mathematics as trivial upon completion of introductory geometry? I should not; for there is far more than geometry to mathematics. And literary study follows the same reasoning. Every science has great depth - English included.

We, here, are taking a limited and unilateral perspective on issues far greater than ourselves and ought to refrain.

Regarding rotarycraft, I love the nostalgia that the proper units bring (physics was my favorite course), and I'm currently working through my first machine.

To this day, I still use my essay voice for public speaking. The entire idea of introducing a subject, explaining it and wrapping it up has served me really well.

I also do it for my tl/dr posts.

I have to say, from my limited experience, rotary craft can be hugely frustrating to get in to , but once you start to crack down it's walls, it's fantastic!
Yesterday trying to get a heater to balance it's temp without melting, then getting it just right to start smelting things @ 950 - chuffed
