I've been using the bedrock breaker to get bedrock, which seems to be an acceptable solution. Frequent relocation is the only downside.

I saw some posts that indicated you could break bedrock with the boring machine given enough torque.

I've tried using 128k Nm torque (IC 4k Nm @ 4kR to CVT 32:1 Torque) on a boring machine w/ Efficiency IV placed into the bedrock where I've already drilled down. I just got sparks, even on a single block.

Other posts indicated this was for Twilight Forest? Is it possible to use the boring machine to mine bedrock in the regular overworld? Is the TF bedrock different somehow?

Mining bedrock from the roof of the nether is probably your best bet. The boring machine will not mine the bedrock at y=0.

I know I can't break the last layer of bedrock. Monster has 4 layers of flat bedrock and I can mine the top three. I had hoped to mine 3 down and then use the boring machine to break it horizontally.

My only issue boring the Nether is getting power there, though I suppose I could pull in a bedrock industrial coil and do it temporarily.

The Twilight Forest feels rather "cheaty" which is why I haven't done that.

The boring machine also doesn't work below y=5. You can run a shaft through a portal to solve the power problem.

So in the Nether I just tried a borer with Efficiency IV, 2 x CVT @ 32:1 torque, powered by a bedrock industrial coil supplying 4 kNm @ 4 kR (16 MW @ 4MNm & 4 R total at boring machine) and I couldn't break a single block.

There appeared to be only Natura Tainted Soil and bedrock in front of the unit.

Any other suggestions?

iirc you only need 8192 Nm of torque to break one bedrock. It looks like you're making a LOT more than that with 2 32x cvts. You are also most likely turning all of you speed into torque. Try just a 2x gearbox/CVT geared for torque.

I have tried several power values, that was the max I could take it with the two CVTs.

Does someone actually have a borer setup in the Nether that can share their layout to compare?

Have you tried setting the boring machine to only do the block right in front of it, and no more? As in, a single block at a time? Remember that the power needed for each block it breaks adds up.

OK, hopped into the nether in a test world. Broke 2 pieces of bedrock, plopped down an industrial coil, gave it 8192 Nm and 1000 rad/s. No dice. Got a little angry because I thought it would be simple. Set it to 999999 Nm and 999999 rad/s. Still nothing. I thought it maight be the height, so I went to a twilight maze and tried to break the bedrock there. Turns out, you have to remove the 5 blocks horizontally from the boring machine for it to 'activate'.

Pics or it didn't happen, amiright?

Oh, and it should work with less than 1000 rad/s, I just don't have the patience to try that.

@Wagon153: Yep. I have several boring machines. I've also had to read the code on Github to debug why Tinker's Aluminum took more torque than obsidian to break. I also cleared three blocks in front and put up Netherrack, hoping a vanilla block would do it.

@pizzawolf14: If the spacing is the issue, I'll give it a try!

You can see the power level, and nothing in front of it. I dug out past five blocks. I could not prevent the bedrock in the ceiling though.

Only one block selected.

Still no dice. Guess I'll keep drilling bedrock in the overworld and sliding over constantly. Maybe I can push my rig with pistons.

Does it have a 5x5 square open? Maybe use your bedrock breaker to clear out the bedrock on the roof one block in front of the boring machine. If it is clear, my apologies as I cannot see from the pictures (and I'm not good at recognizing texture packs)

I've been grinding bedrock routinely with a bedrock breaker in the overworld, I had just read that you could break it with a boring machine too. Given depth was an issue the Nether had been suggested. The boring machine had plenty of power.

It works fine for me, so you either lack sufficient power or sufficient torque. That or your bedrock is in fact some analog from some other mod.

Given I'm in Monster there's every likihood that I'm having a cross-mod issue. It's not a big issue.

Thanks for looking though.

Have you had other reports of the "stuttering" issue, where shaft power busses and some machines will stutter until a block update happens nearby?

It sounds like you are describing the problem caused by too many updates.
