Hey guys.

I've played minecraft for a while, burnt myself out on it really. I accomplished all I really wanted to on a FTB ultimate server and found no reason to keep playing. But that desire to return is burning and I'm considering my return.

Thing is, it's all too easy. All the vanilla minecraft monsters are a joke. I'll only die to them if I'm being reckless or stupid, and getting your gear back is pretty easy. I'm looking for more challange, more fear. No I don't mean gregtech cranking up the grind, I mean being scared to leave the house at night, having to set up defenses and survival not being assured, even in a walled-in house. I love them zombie survival games.

Bonus points if there's a server out there that caters to this and forces players to work together to survive. Anyone know of a place like this?

Try Crash Landing or ME^3. Both those modpacks are great challenges. Dunno any good servers for them though.

I'm actually looking at agrarian skies, that looks different. But how does it work in a multiplayer context?

Well the main difference in multiplayer is, if you download the multiplayer map then you get multiple islands. But if you play on the singleplayer map, on multiplayer, then it is just a little slower to start out, and food is more scarce.

I would like a little bit more grind and a slight increase in mob difficulty, but not a pack that is too structured either. I dont really want to relearn everything. I think I will just adjust power rates, and add one mob mod. The problem is mob mods always cause issues in my experience. But the overall ease of my personal mega pack can be mitigated by adjusting my playstyle too.

Better than Wolves or Terrafirmacraft[DOUBLEPOST=1411257060][/DOUBLEPOST]
Blood and Bones, and if @Strikingwolf ever finishes hisher mod, I'll have a 1.7.10 pack for you. ME^3 and Crash Landing are good as well, if you want a more structured experience.
Hey, it's not my fault it won't recognize the event :p

Oh wow. I tried agrarian skies for a couple hours and that's what I call GRIND. Literally making dirt one block at a time. Forget falling off your sky-home, I'll end up dying of tedium.

I'll give the others a try. I'm more one for combat challenge and danger around every corner!

Yeah, Agrarian Skies is a survival type map. So is Crash Landing, but it does it in a different sort of way. If you like the high-intensity, you should probably try Material Energy^3

I like Running Red. It sends a message, which is something most packs fail to do. It's a quick play, and very fun. It's mechanics are different than all the modern packs, and it's a real nice change. At first, there is some grind, but Gideon does a good job of changing it up. If you make the trip to the island, making all the blocks, there's a large supply of blocks there for you to use. You spend the time making the lava the hard way, he provides an easier way to do it. Everything you do is rewarded with a better and faster way to do it.

And I cannot make enough of an emphasis on the story. Running Red makes such an effort on telling a story, it's something that is rivalled by nothing else in the MC community. It's jam-packed *wink wink* with symbolism, and even if you don't see it all (I didn't), it's an amazing experience. And meanwhile, you're treated to new and refreshing ways to do things with new and interesting mods that are rarely shown by the other available packs.

TL;DR, it's definitely worth the download, and deserves it's place as a listed pack.

I don't know I assume you are like me and just love the thrill of combat, maybe my future pack but it will be my first and I'm actually editing things not just putting mods together

Le sigh.

Right, when I first came looking for a challenge, I discovered Jaded's 'Magic Farm' pack. Since then, I've been a fan of jaded's packs, so far my favorite one is MF2, the successor of MF. it's pretty good, although pretty damn tough to start. expect to die, especially if you've never used Iguana Tweaks before.

Considering you tried ultimate, that was before Tinker's Constructs was released, and TiCo is now a rather big mod now, so getting to know that, as well as Ig's Tweaks will help you. There are harder mobs as well, and learning how to use MFR will also help a lot for automation.

Other packs I recommend are Crash Landing as you're stuck in a desert trying not to dehydrate. Agrarian Skies is pretty much MF2 but skyblock and has quests that teach you how to use its mods.

I tried starting blood and bones, but that was much too hostile for me. Hey, it may be up your street if you enjoy coal blowing up in your face when you try to mine it.
