I've been hosting a private server for some friends, and we generated a world and went to work building our bases. After a few days of setting up, we found that a massive taint infection is rapidly approaching our bases. This thing is seriously massive, there is no way we could remove this thing in survival mode. I've gone into creative mode and started spamming Ethereal Blooms all over, but I've found that they don't revert crusted taint. Additionally, lots of the water and underground caves near the taint have become infected too.

Is there some way I can just quickly get of of all this taint? I'm the server admin, so creative mode, MCEdit, and configuration changing are options that are available to me.

EDIT: I went to go take some screenshots of the underground taint, but it seems to have cleared. Do etheral blooms purify taint underground, too?

non-taint biomes kills taint quite fast. etherial blooms have no verticle limit because they change the biome within 8 blocks.
i recommend blood magic's gaia ritual or witchery's seasons ritual for mass eradication.

EDIT: forgot to mention that crusted taint will decay into flux goo or can be smashed but only forms from wood logs

That is a big taint patch. I don't know of any easy way to do it other than using admin tools.

Bear in mind that some things from Thaumcraft and its addons require vitium essentia and taint drops. You may be better off just fencing it in with ethereal blooms, and keeping it as the grossest safari park ever :p

That looks like oit spans about 100 chunks, there is likely no fast way to do this.

If you simply wish to halt the taint spread, there should be a config for taint spread, setting this to 0 will stop taint spreading at all. As mentioned, Taint does have uses (especially in Forbidden Magic) Speaking of Forbidden magic, there is a special Tainted Tree which providese wood that can resist taint. Perhaps you could use this (or the stone equivelent) to wall off the taint's advance. (Best to have some ethereal blooms behind too for safety). It also provides the shovel of the purifier which could be helpful for clean up.

Don't forget that taint can spread underground through caves, underground ravines, and mineshafts.

The taint mechanism consists of:

Tainted Lands biome - a biome with purple coloured grass. Is largely innocuous and does not spread and acts largely like any other Thaumcraft magical biome. Its negative effects stem as a result of it being the only place fibrous taint can grow, and any nodes in it will become tainted nodes.

Fibrous taint is a kind of plant that grows on the surface of things in a tainted biome. If it covers 3 faces of a dirt block that block will (eventually) become tainted dirt, if it covers 3 faces of a Wood block that block will (eventually) become encrusted taint - both these blocks count as implicit fibrous taint. Walking on it can inflict negative effects on the player and mobs - mobs that die on it will respawn as their tainted variants. Tainted growths grow on it, and it will rapidly cover all solid blocks it can reach within the bounds of a tainted biome - it can jump a 3 block solid or empty vertical gap - i.e. a room needs a 3m thick floor and roof to exclude taint. It cannot grow under water or onto non solid blocks such as glass (!) fences, torches, tilled land etc. so all of these can form an effective barrier to its spread.

When fibrous taint is created outside a tainted lands biome it always convert the block to tainted lands biome. It is created by:
* fibrous taint at the edge of a tainted lands biome will - extremely slowely - colonize adjacent non tainted biome blocks tainting them in the process.
* tainted nodes will spawn it on available surfaces in a 15x15x15 area centered on the node.
* tainted sheep grazing
* tainted creepers exploding
* large quanties of flux decomposing - i.e. from overflowing a crucible.
* bottled taint
* as a rare random effect from the primal focus.

If fibrous taint is hemmed in on the surface - say by an ocean - it may spread underground taking the tainted biome with it. But unless the tunnels reach (2 blocks of) the surface or capture a node and taint it, the resulting tainted lands will be naturally contained and have no negative effects.

Thaumcrafts mechanisims for clearing up taint infections include the ethereal bloom and pure nodes, but any process that converts biome away from tainted lands biome should kill the fibrous taint and hold the spread at bay.
