Regarding natura redwood trees

Can I grow them on a 7x7 dirt spot which is in the air?

I have a platform just above the ground and I placed down 49 saplings but it hasn't grew for quite some minecraft days so I'm not too sure

are you sure you placed the right saplings? there are two sorts of redwood. You have to get the saplings from a similar Tree.

but if you have the right sapling, just wait. it takes quite some time..

I've planted those trees before so I know I'm using the right saplings, thanks for the tip though. It's been one and a half hour uh

The platform may need to be a bit bigger (9x9-11x11) but it should work. They do take forever to grow though, like a minecraft week or more

It's also better to plant them in a 9x9 or larger grid, to give you more chances for a tree to grow.

My platform is a circle with the radius of 80 so I'm probably fine hehe

Last week in DW20 1.6.4 I took 6 hearts of damage from 3 Natura Reds growing in my face while I was still planting the arrays... I'm not sure the time frame is the same anymore.

I don't know about growing them in midair... The roots go down quite far... I've had 10-15 blocks of root beneath my largest trees, and maybe the roots need to have blocks mostly surrounding them? This is just a guess.

Yeah I can confirm something has happened recently with timing. Before I even got all the saplings planted I got a redwood up the trouser leg.

Here is where I got hit. I took the tree in the background to the head on day 1 after planting maybe 20-25 trees. It wasn't big enough for my needs so I spent the night in the village shown.

The two trees in the midrange were a weird Siamese-twin formation I got the second day when I started planting a couple of chunks closer to the village... These are a 9x9 and an 13x13 sharing a common diagonal wall. I planted a 4x9 patch first, conventional theory being the trees don't start growing until the array is fully planted, then got no further than 2x9 [edit] on the other side of the array before the second 9x9 tried to pick my nose.

As I started uprooting the remaining saplings the 13x13 popped up and nearly killed me. The second pic shows the internal ground floor fully hollowed out.
