This. At least you can run up and try to bludgeon a creeper to death before it blows. Skeletons are more:
Try to run up>arrow to face>get knocked back>repeat steps 1-3 a few times>die

....or the lovely "hmm, that diamond ore is near a lava lake, I should be fine if I crouch..." next thing you know you get sniped into the lava (after mining the ore, of course.)
Or you just get completely blindsided by a mob that can attack you before you are even aware it exists.

There's a peacefull table that can get mob items in peacefull mode.
I'm aware of it and I use it myself. This discussion however started with this:
If you do not have Extra Utilities, does anyone know of a peaceful way to get ender pearls? Both of the ways I would normally use (peaceful table and enderlilies) are from XU.
Telling him he has to have XU is counterproductive. A standalone mod that has a peaceful method for mob drops would be ideal for people who don't want to get the full XU mod if they're only using the table.

Depends on the kind of gameplay mechanics you're after.

My limited experience of peaceful was mostly due to being a total noob, so it almost served as a tutorial mode so I could at least grasp the basic game mechanics before I re-added them.
This would just expand on that a little more- allowing a gentler introduction to combat, and the experience of fighting the boss mobs ect...
You can get knocked into lava on peaceful mode anyway (overly friendly wolves)- but if monsters aren't causing physical damage one would assume theres no knockback from the attack- so no risk of being pushed in.

A fair point and I understand that there are multiple reasons. The result however is the same that unless a player decides to use creative mode methods, they feel cut off and capped off due to a lack of options.

As for the knockback that seems to be coded separately from the damage. eliminating one doesn't necessarily eliminate the other.

Again, get someone to make an AI mod that makes mobs nonhostile. That solves both issues and is not that difficult.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
How is it any different than TPPI? That's my main concern.

Official FTB pack (TPPI is reddit)
Minecraft 1.7 over MC 1.6
Reduced mod list; more cohesive well designed play experience with less to go wrong. Probably less CPU intensive.
Also its actually designed to have similar gameplay mechanics to ultimate, rather than a 'do everything' pack.
(Ultimate mostly felt like an engineering/design based pack, rather than everything and anything)

Let me call you out here. TPPI is being made for 1.7.10. Additionally, its far from a "throw everything in there" pack. Infact, TPPI on 1.6.4 goes way beyond 1.6.4 FTB packs. Custom recipy's, bug fixes, compatability mods and even entire mods being remade/updated just for that pack (all by the TPPI team).

I'm reverse-calling-you-out on that one =P They're doing a lot of work on it, that's fine, but it's *so* "throw everything in there" someone needs to write a kitchen sink mod for it.

A "throw it all in there" is nothing but just that. Throwing it all in there. They arent doing that, so no.

I'm playing TPPI atm. It's one of the best balanced packs I've seen so far and definitely is based on Ultimate. It's anything BUT a cluttered mess, as any quick look at the recipes and tweaks list will tell you.

Frankly, TPPI is the perfect example of how to do big modpacks right.

I think there's a divide between meaning here. I'm certainly not saying it's a mess. I also run an extremely full private pack, and we're always working on it.

I'm just saying it's HUGE. TPPI may be balanced; you'll have to take that up with the people who play it. But I wouldn't call it "focused" or "thematic" or "not containing over 200 mods".
