Shiny head, paper binding, thaumium rod... That's what I use for endgame... Base modifier is 5, so max is 8.
I usually waste 6 on quartz for a one-hit kill on mobs, 1 on redstone and 1 on silk touch. Already thousands of durability and a lot of shiny endgame, so I don't use RF to save one modifier. And basically endgame you already have automated mining so you won't want your pick to do any real mining. I usually leave one of these picks and a wrench in my hotbar, other 7 slots are all empty(i use golden apples and for earlygame berry bowls to keep my hunger and saturation full all the time so i won't have to worry about food)
Another way to think about saving hotbar is the wrench. Wrath V Sharpness V Empowered Flux Battlewrench one hits everything 10 hearts just like a 6 quartz shiny pick, so you can just suck redstone on all avaliable spots on your pick and use the wrench to REKT mobs. Also only takes 2 slots in your hotbar.
Or... You got no mobs in/near your base and you do no adventure at all? Then nvm.
