I did a little searching and saw plenty of posts about lag but none with my specific condition.

Me and my brother play on a private server hosted from his PC.

It is always just two or three of us at the most and the game runs beautifully all day with all three of us on but at about 10 or 11 pm my actions stop registering. I cant eat, take dmg, fight, open chests.. ect.. however i can still move cleanly through the area.

The game sais my connection to the server is full bars however i cant interact with my surroundings.

With my connection being perfect to the server is it possible that this is a connection issue or is it something on my end?

For the record we live in separate houses so it is over the internet.

So My brother is not having this problem however my wife and I both do on our respective computers at the same time. I can't get hold of him today to get the logs sadly but i will as soon as he logs back on.

It seems to happen every night at roughly the same time between 8 and 11 pm.

Here is a thought to check after you follow Ash's guide. We will still want the latest logs if these do not fix it or turnout to be true. The logs on your computers at the time of the slowdown might prove useful as well.
If you and your wife are on the same connection to the internet, contact your ISP and see if they are throttling your speed at that time.

I'd guess either an ISP throttling your connection at that time (like lav suggested), or a sudden rise of internet users in your area which slows down the connection.

This may sound absurd, but have your brother check to see if he has any programs running automated tasks during that time. Virus scans, file cleaners, defrags, windows update ( assuming he's using windows,) etc. Anything like that can cause what is happening and he might not even notice.

I had a private server running from my pc with some friends once, about 5 of us, and they all experienced very similar while I didn't and it turned out my AVG started running and mucked it all up. Stopping the scan made everything fine.

Sounds like it could be ISP throttling, or just an overburdened connection. That time frame is peak internetting time.

That is a great idea. I am still trying to get the logs but i noticed that it happens only when he isn't online. maybe his pc is going to sleep while running the server or doing auto scan like you said.

Still trying to get the logs from him though. I have just finished my final last final exam so ill have time now

as for my isp the internet seems to run smoothly even watching youtube videos during this time however i wont count out that as a possibility without checking it.

Ill come back with more info as i get it. Thanks for all the help so far guys, i know it's a hassle without the logs.

EDIT: the server lag ended the second he logged back in, it only seems to happen when he is away.

the log states that several random attempts to connect where made durring this time and they all have bad packet ids. these people are not me or my brother. no one ellse is supposed to even know about this server.

Can you post the log to pastebin?

Sorry, I nor a few others will open attachments for various reasons, mostly security purposes.

It sounds like someone might be DDoSing your brother, but I can't say that for sure even with java logs. I would have to see a netstat during the time of the attempt to be sure.
