Well the buildcraft Kinesis pipes are a decent alternative early on and are pretty cheap to make.

But, ironically, as the buildcraft laser tables are half height blocks, its own pipes don't "fit" - except below.

Hmm, I just did this using gold kinesis pipes and was able to connect (to the lasers) from the top.

For early game, use Copper Coils and LV Wire Connectors from Immersive Engineering mod. It supports both EU and RF, meaning that you can use it for IC2 as well.

Make sure to replace that all with MV and Electrum Coils later, as the higher voltage in the electric circuit, the less power loss.

Maximum distance beetween 2 Wire Connectors is 18 blocks.

Use Fancy Graphics to make them also fit from above.

Why are you running energy into the table directly? That's what the lasers are there for. Unless you mean Item pipes.
