Hello,

I am piping items to a device like fertilizer to a fementer. If the fermentor is full it shoots the item out of the piping. Is there a way to tell if a device is full or not?

thanks!

If you want to use pipes, you can possibly use the BC gates to detect if there's a need for fertilizer, send the signal down a pipe signal wire to another gate that turns on the wooden pipe sending the fertilizer.
Where are you piping the fertilizer from? If its from a chest nearby, why not use a hopper/router instead to take the fertilizer from the chest and put it into the fermenter? They will only transport stuff if there's room for them.
Of course you can also set up a Applied Energistics ME network to do it all. But that is rather more complex to set up.

ok that somewhat makes sense, what i am trying to do is send fertilizer into a fermetor. However when it is full it pops out the fertilizer, when i put a hopper on top, the fertilizer wont even go in. Sorry im a little new to piping items.

You can also use Logistic Pipes setting up a request system so all your fertilizer goes to a chest or barrel then when something needs it the pipe connected to the device requests it and the item is sent. Alternatively you could use applied energistics with import and export buses to do the same thing.

Hmm from testing a bit, it seems that fertilizer has to be input from the EAST side on the fermenter. Apparently it doesn't matter how matter which direction you place down the fermenter, its always the east side. Odd.
You can click the hopper onto the east side like this:

If you have multiple fermenters I would suggest using Routers. They can be a bit of work getting whats required in order to craft them, but they are surprisingly versatile. This is the Fermenter setup I'm using:

The routers are the purple ones to the right. The top router is inserting the plant materials into top sides of the fermenters. The bottom router is inserting the fertilizer(or Mulch in this case) into the West side of the fermenters(Routers compass directions are opposite of reality).

Even though it's heavy on materials (cause there never seems to be enough quartz), I would go with Applied Energistics. Will only deliver items when there is a place to put them. So if the inventory is full on a machine, it won't deliver any.
