Who knew this and finds it better with a gate?

For those who don't know, Buildcraft pipes will connect with liquiducts. This allows you to pump liquids with the wooden transport pipe and autarchic gates. Also works with other liquid pipes.

Side note:
Not very useful in my opinion(pipes cant pull as much for 1 block less of space) but it is interesting.

The only time you should do this is in emergencys when you don't have enough liquiducts to complete the connection and HAVE to use them with bc pipe until you make more.

One advantage of this would be that wooden pipe with autharchic gate will pull one bucket on one registered pulse (gates check for redstone every 10 ticks, so pulse should be that length, however it can mess up if you change ordering of updates by building and work twice). However it will break on chunk unloading, they will not resume pumping correctly. Also you can put gates on waterproof pipes, which can be used to control engines supplied by them.

The one bucket per pulse thing is an interesting point. But outside of that very particular case Liquiducts are still the way to go since, as Lambert pointed out, they can respond to a redstone signal from a gate on a structure pipe.

Why do wooden pipes hold lava?
The same reason lava doesn't solidify after sitting idle in a tank for days on end.
It's minecraft. ;)

I fail to see a use for the example setup here. You can set a liquiduct to extract from tanks just fine with a crescent hammer or and Omni-Wrench, and usually it will pump more then the wooden pipe. But the exactly one bucket per pulse is noteworthy, and thus could be handy in some circumstances.

And the reason sand falls but trees float? (which is why I cheat in most of my wood, I hate having floating trees that i need to climb to fully break. Still waiting for Mojang to fix those~)

Aside from massive jungle trees and crazy oak trees(and some big Forestry/ExtraBiomesXL trees), pretty much every tree can be easily fully cut down. For me the issue is too many trees(grrr, stupid forests and jungles) and not enough time to clear cut them all. Plus, burning the whole forest causes too much lag and rarely gets rid of all the trees. I have to find the Wizards Autumn spell in Ars Magicka soon.(and stay with a world long enough to get stuff set up) I may just set up a spell research table and then create my own farming spell that does everything.

if you need to use gates, use structure pipes beside the ducts

That ^

I've also used it the other way around, using liquiducts to feed waterproof pipes, but I only did that because I didn't need huge volumes of liquid and I was out of resources to make more liquiducts xD

Logger with chest and energy cell will quickly take care of all the trees in 21x21 area centered on it (use it quickly, it will be removed in 1.5).

About pipes vs liquiducts, for 90 % cases this doesn't matter. I like using fluid pipes, they look not bad and you must use pumps and not extraction using redstoned arrow. If only they didn't ignore gravity (they can suck water while being 30 meters above source).

I think, if there was a scenario where there was no space around the only output to a tank for a red stone signal, this would be the only way of pulling from it?

I never thought of it that way and that does seem helpful, but I have never needed just a bucket.
