Good news! Finally lucked upon one charged certus quartz, so I get two charged crystals off of it. I run home and make 2 fluix crystals out of one, and then craft my charger. Incidentally, you can use RF in a charger! I just hooked it up and have now charged most of my crystals! Now the fun really starts.

Gee.... I thought that first step involved a smeltery and various poor innocent folk who just want to keep their emeralds!

Don't forget cow genocide. I hear that's high on the list of requirements as well.

Every deity enjoys a sacrifice of cattle, I just take it...several thousand steps further.

ArMOOgeddon, you might call it.

Finally! Good news. I am finally getting close to setting it up. After about 2 hours of searching today, I found all the presses. Whew! That was a LOT of work (Had to craft a new hammer out of alumite to even get it!) So, I started crafting all my stuff, and got two Engineering processors, but had to log off before I actually crafted anything. So now I can finally start! I will be able to craft my ME drive as soon as I log back on, and then just do a tiny bit of crafting for the acceptor and the terminal! Plus the storage cells. Would it be better for me to craft six 1k storage cells or go ahead and craft better ones but fewer?

Depends what you're going to be storing.

If you'll be using it for mass storage of cobble and dirt but not huge numbers of different types of items you can get away with 1k cells for a while. I usually start with 4k and then move up to 16k once I have more quartz.

Basically 4k and above can all hold up to 63 different types of item, 1k cells can only manage 16.

Do most people tend to use storage buses for mass storage of stuff? Like, I never ever put things like cobble and dirt in my AE2 system, I feel like its a waste. I'll keep like 40,000 in a barrel with a storage bus or something, and export the excess into a trashcan.

A storage bus on a Drawer Controller has been my go-to for bulk storage for a while now. Just one channel and all the upgradable storage I need for the usual heavy hitters (dirt, cobble, stone, etc). The available Void Upgrade allows me to not have to mess around with configuring a trash can as well.

Yeah, I almost felt guilty the last time I did that. With compacting drawers it was even sillier.

I usually justify it because I start building the Drawer wall well before I'm ready to consider AE a legitimate option. Then once I've reached that stage of progression, I keep the Drawers but loose all the random junk chests.

I haven't set up an AE autocrafting system since 1.6, so I sell myself some leeway there too. To each their own.

Actually I do store coble, dirt gravel, etc. in AE..... I'm one of the rare bread that uses a combination of disks in my drives. I don't go blow out resources to make all 64k drives. Over 1/2 of my storage is 1k drives and will remain so. That is general storage of all the small item count stuff. The other 1/2 is various other sizes but they all partitioned to hold one item each. This is actually the most efficient way to store thing in AE.

How do you partition them? I decided I wanted to go ahead and make some 4k drives because I figured that if I made 6 1k it woul kind of be a waste of resources because I would be upgrading soon. But what you say makes sense, if I make three 4ks, and three 1ks, and I could put cobble in one, dirt in another, and wood in the last one. I might try setting up some drawers also.

To partition your cells, make a Cell Workbench.

You can put a storage cell in the slot at the top right corner, then drop in the item types you want to allow. You can also name your partitioned cells for ease of identification :)

You will also need IO Port. That will transfer existing items out of the current network into storage cells. If the cell is partition it will only pull that one item. The way AE works is there is a priority on how it stores items. The highest priority is the location the item exists already. In other words if you already have oak wood in the system. It will prefer to store it on the storage cell. If it does't exist then it uses the next lowest priority which is the one you can set in the GUI. As a general rule I don't mess with the priority that much. The default of 0 is good.
