So have any of you tried doing the original skyblock map in like The Monster Pack or Direwolf? From what I can tell, the only way you can get far is by doing mystcraft or installing Nether ores and just bridging out until you see where the map maker stopped erasing land with MCEdit. Though i am a sucker for nostalgia and would like to know of any harder more creative ways besides this. Ideas?

If you want to edit the map you could just make vilagers that trade te resources you need. But again this means you will have to edit before you can play.

the goal is to keep the map as unchanged as possible adding mods and using mods are fair game, editing the map... not so much.

If I remember correctly thaumcraft has a way to transform metals into other metals so you just need some iron to make a cauldron and then farm some pigman to get metal that you could transform. And you could get the iron from normal zombies so it is possible to get all the metals It will just take a very long time.

oh yeah, but aren't most of them fire due to the biome thing?

I figure the hardest part is getting a diamond to get to the Twilight Forest. Making a Mystcraft Description book with nothing in it is also a possibility, just gotta hope.

And I highly recommend ex nihilo and its addon ex aliquo. Adds a bunch of stuff that doesn't take away from the difficulty of skyblock, but instead expands the possibilities. In the world I'm on now, I started off on an ex nihilo barrel (used for making dirt from plant stuff and many other things.) with nothing but 9 saplings. From that, with those two mods, you can do anything you can think of in DW20. If you're feeling extra hardcore, then it is possible to do it in peaceful mode as well.

It would be a lot easier to get diamonds in DW20 if EE3 was in it. And ore alchemy is unfortunately unavailable without a bit of the ore to start out with.

good mod... I may make a skyblock picture through series tommorow using the direwolf pack...
