And what do you need to mine aluminum gravel? Just a pickaxe?
A shovel. Just like ores you'll need iron shovels for mining gold gravel, but for iron, tin, copper and aluminium anything will work.

I want the aluminum to make the casts used in the smeltery from Tinkers Construct
You say you have more diamonds than aluminum, so I presume that you also have a reasonable amount of gold? Gold can be used instead of aluminum brass to make all of the casts you're looking for.
You may well be right - I couldn't say. All I know is that in my latest world I had enough gold to spare for the casts I needed after my first mining trip. It may have helped that I didn't need all of my tools to be metal straight away - my all-stone hammer was perfectly adequate for causing massive amounts of environmental damage for some time.I think you need 2 times the amount of gold that you would have needed if you used that aluminium brass stuff

Thank you so much for this! (I do have 33 gold, which I have no major use for early game)
That will help a LOT!
Finally, someone is being very helpful!
(for me, gold is much easier to look for as I find it at the same time that I find redstone/diamond/iron/lapis/silver/lead much better than searching for aluminum)
YAAAAAAY
What he^ said, I got most of my aluminium ores from abandoned mineshafts and caving.Do note tho, that for each cast you use 2 gold instead of 1 aluminum brass, also just go around caves is all you need, branch mining doesnt help alot with aluminium.
All suggestions considered:
Caves are scary
I dont know how to use turtles (I could do some stuff with RP2 computers, but have no idea how turtle programming works)

For Aluminum you can also get Ore berries, right? They're some of the most commonly found ore berries in caves and ravines. If you're not a fan of fighting mobs just take a bed and explore the surface, you're bound to find ravines with some ore berries in them or come across them near the entrances of caves. With the bed you can skip nights and thus avoid practically all contact with mobs.
At least I'm not a huge fan of caving either, but through exploring I can always find everything I need that isn't found at Diamond level.
Hello!
I have a few questions about ores/ore generation
-It seems as though everything spawns in larger groups, as before I would find patches of 4-8 iron, while now I find patches of 8-12, same goes with gold (which im seeing a lot more of)
is it just me?

Is anyone else struggling to find Lapis? I've spend hours down at 17-19 and at about 3 stacks of gold ore and 2 stacks of diamonds I still only have half a stack of lapis!
