I want the aluminum to make the casts used in the smeltery from Tinkers Construct

You say you have more diamonds than aluminum, so I presume that you also have a reasonable amount of gold? Gold can be used instead of aluminum brass to make all of the casts you're looking for.

I think you need 2 times the amount of gold that you would have needed if you used that aluminium brass stuff

You may well be right - I couldn't say. All I know is that in my latest world I had enough gold to spare for the casts I needed after my first mining trip. It may have helped that I didn't need all of my tools to be metal straight away - my all-stone hammer was perfectly adequate for causing massive amounts of environmental damage for some time.

Thank you so much for this! (I do have 33 gold, which I have no major use for early game)
That will help a LOT!
Finally, someone is being very helpful!
(for me, gold is much easier to look for as I find it at the same time that I find redstone/diamond/iron/lapis/silver/lead :) much better than searching for aluminum)

Do note tho, that for each cast you use 2 gold instead of 1 aluminum brass, also just go around caves is all you need, branch mining doesnt help alot with aluminium.

What he^ said, I got most of my aluminium ores from abandoned mineshafts and caving.

Turtle mining? Make turtle, set it down, and place a chest right behind it. Open turtle, type Excavate, and a number behind it for the size. I find 5 at 64 will go down to bed rock with little issue. The turtle will then bore all the way down as long as it has fuel. If you start it in open sky and combine it with a solar panel, it'll run continuously. The one downside is that if you restart the game in Single-player, or the server restarts, you'll have to reset and restart the turtle.

Alternately, make yourself a mine shaft down to the level you want and use Tunnel, with a number for length. It won't come back to a chest, so I wouldn't suggest going more than 20 at a time.

The most efficient fuel source is just a bucket of lava.

For Aluminum you can also get Ore berries, right? They're some of the most commonly found ore berries in caves and ravines. If you're not a fan of fighting mobs just take a bed and explore the surface, you're bound to find ravines with some ore berries in them or come across them near the entrances of caves. With the bed you can skip nights and thus avoid practically all contact with mobs.

At least I'm not a huge fan of caving either, but through exploring I can always find everything I need that isn't found at Diamond level.

I had an issue with Aluminum also, until I explored the surface, I found a few decent deposits of AL gravel, Gold was found in the Extreme Hills area in nice caches. Iron was fairly common, but tin, copper and iron are better off gotten through normal mining.

All suggestions considered:
Caves are scary :p
I dont know how to use turtles (I could do some stuff with RP2 computers, but have no idea how turtle programming works)
And what do you need to mine aluminum gravel? Just a pickaxe?

Like normal gravel, gravel-ore is acquired with shovels or your hands.[DOUBLEPOST=1377988473][/DOUBLEPOST]

You can but I'd wager he'd find aluminum before he finds bushes and even then it'd take a while to accumulate anything of any great number with bushes.

Hello!
I have a few questions about ores/ore generation
-It seems as though everything spawns in larger groups, as before I would find patches of 4-8 iron, while now I find patches of 8-12, same goes with gold (which im seeing a lot more of)
is it just me?

-snip

No I have definitely noticed that all vanilla ores seem to spawn in much bigger clusters.
I have found this to be true on the 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 versions of the pack.

Is anyone else struggling to find Lapis? I've spend hours down at 17-19 and at about 3 stacks of gold ore and 2 stacks of diamonds I still only have half a stack of lapis!

Find an ocean and dig around under it until you find one of the RC Geodes? They have a fair amount of the rarer materials in them.
Other than that curse the RNG gods and sacrifice something to them :)

Also I probably wouldn't use gold for the TiC casts if you intend to make an AE molecular assembly chamber a decent sized one will eat 4 or 5 stacks of gold for the frame.
