Still wonder how they even intend to ban a game that is only going down in sales because everyone has it..

It goes on to express concern that the game might encourage younger players to harm animals, not understanding the possible consequences,.
I am more concerned that children grow up without the understanding that their burgers and nuggets came from living animals, and the vegetables and bread they eat comes from stuff being grown in a field. Minecraft is a wonderful tool at explaining this to children.

True story. Also, when I think about violent video games, Minecraft is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind.

While killing animals, villagers, and various mobs is violent(like tame tom and jerry violent, but violent still) I cannot understand how this is any worse than lets say a lego game with punching/shooting/various-methods-of-killing -enemies. Really, do smoke particles and the hurt-ish sounds from a pixelated cow bother a person that much? If so they do not need to turn on the news with their children around, worse stuff lies there

I grew up each Saturday morning watching a coyote blow himself up with TNT, hang himself, electrocute himself, fall from high ledges, and repeatedly fire himself from a cannon into a stone cliff face. I played more than my fair share of GTA (all of them), Halo/COD, Silent Hill, and some more obscure darkly violent games. I work a 45 hour/week job. I'm a (mostly) responsible parent. I've yet to murder or rape anyone.

I don't get it.

The last article I read Turkey said they weren't outright banning the game, but I guess they think that pressuring Microsoft in the Public Forum will have some effect.

If I read correctly, Mojang's response was that they could make a special "Turkey only" version (Creative mode only) if Turkey picked up the network costs of isolating their players from the rest of the world and maintained their own servers. -OR- Turkey could just let anyone offended by Survival mode select Creative mode themselves.

For some reason this reminds me of the Landover Baptist Church thing on Minecraft, someone said it is teaching the children to not do "The American Way of going to McDonalds and buying their food pre-made".

I honestly believe it should be part of every childs school education to go to a farm and slaughter their own meat at least once. Probably the younger the better so they will not be "preprogrammed" by stigmas that make it a traumatic experience. People are completely detached from reality.

As someone who lives in a area where you cannot drive for ten minutes without seeing multiple diaries, beef cows, and fields of various crops I still find the fact that some children don't know where their food comes from both sad and terrible.

uhh, not all for that. Agree fully that it should be at some point early on in education that we teach kids EXACTLY where their food comes from and how it gets there, but as someone who has a soft spot for animals in general (yes I eat them alot, love me some bacon) I'm not for having them slaughter the animal themselves, if nothing else to maybe not give the idea that just because it is not human life it is not valuable. Again, I eat animals just as much as anyone else and have no intentions of becoming vegetarian anytime soon, but just after seeing a few people around where I live not care for animals due to hunting (not my cup of tea either, but no problem with the idea or practice) them all their life, not one to jump at this idea. Of course you and you and I am me, so just putting in my opinion and not trying to start a argument over one little difference.

i don't think that making kids slaughter animals as a part of a school activities is a good idea. showing how and why its done is probably enough.
