A bit more info, please?

Things like OS specifics, mainboard, amount and type/speed of installed ram, GPU, etc. would help immensely.

FYI, my system:

1. ASUS Sabertooth 990FX main board (first generation)
2. AMD FX8350 @ 4GHz (no overclock)
3. 8GB DDR2 1666 MHz ram overclocked to 1800MHz
4. nVidia Geforce GT610 GPU w/1GB dedicated DDR3 ram, DirectX11 and OpenGL 4.2 supported

The system is running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit version and Java 1.8.0_65 (Oracle JDK)

What frqmes do you grt? thinking abo an 8320/50 the 50s overrxclock brtter i heard due to better silicon but idk. probably 16 gigs of cas 1 ram 1866 mhz and either a 270x or 750ti. Just wondering how optifine utilizes the multiple cores and if it is equal to say a 4690k with optifine and muicore enables

My framerate depends on the pack, but I get 35-70 fps at the highest settings generally except for occasional terrain generation lag in Infinity. I've avoided optifine since I've read of the mod generating issues when used with some other mods... I have heard that it uses a second core but have no firsthand knowledge.

You won't see 4690k performance, but then you'll have saved enough money to beef up other areas that improve MC performance more, such as adding a SSD. :D

an 8350 beats a 4690k in many multi threaded applications and im wondering since optifine can htilize multiple cores how well would it preform? with the 6300 fps has gone up on heavily modded packs (infinity) from 30-60 all the way up to 60-90. although ea core is weaker i just didnt know how well optifine handled them. I know alot about pc's just not modded mc. also nothing else would really beef it up. a gpu would make higher graphical settings more feasible and an ssd faster saving times but i can probably find an old gpu. this was for my nephew bur i will probablt give him a 6700k or 4790k with a 980. just for upgradbility.
