Nether portals everywhere!

Hi, For some odd reason im having nether portals spawning everywhere in my map, they are spawning in the overworld, and i have even seen a few spawn in twillight which seems weird. Now i've had this problem for some time now and it just keeps getting worse even when i've tried to tear down all the portals which are being used and rebuild them back up, and link them to the correct coords in nether, and they work as expected,
even with all the nether portals that are being used are linked, im stilling spotting more and more nether portals just just spawning randomly places in the over world, and a few in twillight.
im becoming clueless of what i can do, since i cant find that many people with the same problem, and none with a solution that fits my problem

i am familiar on how nether portal works, and they will generate if no corresponding nether portals are in the correct coords (or close to it), thats why this seems even more stupid that they keep generating even when the linked portals work as the should.


I am running an unleashed server with a few players around 5-8 players, the only extra plugin i have on the server is Mytown and Dynmap.

Random nether portals? Are you sure none of those players are actually doing this on purpose? Anyway, there have been a few other threads, both on FTB forums and on Minecraft-forums.net, although it seems strange: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/randomly-generated-nether-portals.3480/ and http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1200512-randomly-generated-nether-portals/ and http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/98887-random-nether-portals-from-gfaqs/
Those are really old, though. Here is something to try: get LogBlock or some similar Bukkit plugin. Then see who made the portals/when were they made.
It could also be some sort of "Haloween prank" by a developer. It is possible. On the updates blog for Minecraft (http://mcupdate.tumblr.com/) they say:

Changes in 1.6: ... -Removed Herobrine.

So it's probably some prank. Not to mention there are pumpkin carts for Railcraft already...

It still could be Herobrine.

i doubt its Halloween prank,

more portals have appeared since i posted this, and its just not stopping,...

this couldn't be my players since these portals spawn way beyond, and only the chunk is generated where the actual portal is, and not around it, as you can see on the third picture i linked, where u can see the world map.

and i have anti grief plugin Mytown which prevents people from builden anything within your house, and as you can see on the 2nd picture a portal has spawned inside my house and replaced the blocks where the portal stands.

Mytown plugin does work, it has been frequently tested.

I appreciate your suggestions, i've seen the post allready that you gave me, most of the people have problem where they are spawning in wrong places in the overworld when they enter the portal in nether, lucky though my portals works fine, and teleports you to the right portals in overworld and in nether.

i would like to give the blame to entering nether portals since it seems to quiet down with the spawning of portals when no one is entering nether (i haven't confermed if its entering or leaving)

Hi, i just found out that it was my "Mytown" plugin that was causing this, but only when you did a /t Spawn or /home that would teleport you, somehow nether thinks your entering a portal when typing those 2 commands.

i still have the plugin installed on my server, i just removed the ability to do those 2 commands through permissions.

since i did that, portals has now finally stopped spawning

hope this helps for any1 els who is having same problem.
