So nether ores explode, and oddly enough nether quartz is also a nether ore, so it can explode too.
Why would one ore type not explode when the rest do? That sounds pretty stupid to me.
It's mostly "stupid" because "The Internet" has a sub-par vocabulary.

A less important but still valid reason why is because Nether Quartz is a very important material in many mods now, and it throws the balance off if they are a NO.

So modders should only add blocks to the game, instead of actually modifying it?
No, of course not. It's just sorta annoying that Everyone and the Mother uses Nether Quartz as a gateway material in some way, and this is compounded by NO making them more difficult to mine.

Its interesting how almost no-one mentions cross mod balance when Xmod provides content that make Ymods resources easier/more abundant.
You edited, I edit.

To be fair, it's the "No News is Good News" issue, not getting news means things are going smoothly. But when you get news, it's usually bad because no one wants to waste time saying that "Things are going well".

The point of Nether Ores is to add nether versions of overworld ores that are dangerous to mine but yield more resources. If it alters nether quartz as well, that changes the whole idea of the mod.

This discussion is going nowhere. Some people like it, some don't. Is there really anything else to say?
Plenty of things left to say! But yes, it's going nowhere, and fast. But that doesn't mean there isn't anything left to say!

You can disable it (and also explosions) in the cfg.. As a side note.. You are in the freaking nether. Why do people expect the nether to be a piece of cake? Its supposed to be hell or something like that, and its already easy enough, some spice to it doesn't harm in any way, in fact, i find myself in the nether a lot usually because i feel its better than the overworld if you really want to have a challenge (which isn't like playing warhammer 40k soulstorm in max difficulty, but still kind of challenging) so yeah.. Also nether ores are worth the danger, they duplicate your output once more (And if you use mimichite.. hell yeah, 4 ores each nether ore) so.. Use silk touch, change cfg, or dont mine them :p

And after reading that reply, I finally decided to click on the "unwatch thread" (which I was debating on since yesterday). Thank you, you good man!

AFTERTHOUGHT: I just realised that this reply would come off as rude, and upset people needlessly. So just to clarify my original remark. I am not directing this at anybody here. I have simply acknowledged the OP's original remark that the sum total of this entire thread is that people on both sides of the fence seem to have very convincing reason for why they are on that side of the fence. So, I have decided that it is best to respect both sides of the fence as equally valid and move on to other things. I hope that clarifies my response somewhat. Thanks.

The nether was originally conceived of as a transportation hub. Hence the 8:1 distance scaling.

I've never seen it advertised as making the nether harder, only adding more stuff to it.
Added aggro to zombie pigmen when you mine ANYTHING in the nether. They hate thieves.
Added hidden explosive ores. Just because.
I guess those are considered as "adding stuffs"?:p

Originally it only added special ores that exploded and made pigmen angry because, you know, they were valuable, so it does count as "adding stuff". Eventually it made nether quartz valuable to pigs (and explosive) as well.
I'm surprised that glowstone isn't considered a nether ore too, given how somewhat rare it is without TE3. Nether brick should explode and make them mad too because fortresses aren't the most common thing, the same for soul sand without BoP. In fact, just make pigmen angry if you break anything in the Nether. They're selfish.
