Hi all, please be patient with me, I'm new to FTB and it's launcher and I have tried to find an answer to my question in the forums already.

I'm getting a lot of memory leaks, like many other people and have tried a fresh install FTB by doing the force update thing, then removing the mods I don't want. The problem is when I then launch the game I get a message from forge telling me it expects whatever mod I've removed and I have to close the game down. Is there a force update to a vanilla version of minecraft that I'm supposed to be using first because I can't find one in the list. What am I missing?

Thank you for your patience.

Edit: Aslso if somone could tell me how to get the console back that would be good. It seems to have disappeared since I started loading FTB Launcher with a bat file to make sure minecraft uses 64 bit java.

Which mods, in particular, are you trying to remove? There will be some that depend on others in order to function (I think GregTech and IC2 are like this, as will be Extra/Vis Bees and Forestry).

If you can work out what you want to remove, then you need to work out what depends on it.

xycraft, voxelmap to replace it with rei's and thaumcraft 3 mainly although voxelmap is the only one I really want to remove since the waypoint sharing is kind of a deal breaker, since i only play single player and play lots of different maps.

Ok, I don't think that there are any major dependancies with that (VoxelMap might be needed by the rest of the voxelpack, but I can't be sure).

How are you removing them? Are you just deleting the file from the mods folder, or disabling them in the launcher?

WRT the console issue, there should be a checkbox in the options screen to show the console.

Ok I'll try to describe what I did. I followed instructions from another post in this forum somewhere but I can't find it now.

1) Through the launcher clicked force update, and had checked come back to console after game exit.
2) clicked launch.
3) Once the update was done, exited back to launcher
4) opened mod edit page, removed thaumcraft 3 and xycraft (if that's what it's called)
5) launched the game
6 error message from forge telling me it expected (can't remember file name), load task manager, end process, reload launcher.

I am assuming that this happened (three times) because when i go to force update and launch, the ultimate mod pack is highlighted in the mod pack list. I have tried to just force update a vanilla mincraft 1.4.7 to test my theory but I cannot find a way of doing this in the launcher.

Also, yes the console check box is checked but the window is not showing for me so I can't see what's loading or what errors I'm getting. All i see is the command box from the .bat file I created, and the FTB main launcher page.

If you are looking to customize any of the packs probably a good idea to grab MultiMC. Get the latest version of the pack using the FTB launcher, import it in MultiMC, and then remove the mods in your multiMC instance. This way you can get updated pack downloads through the FTB launcher, but keep your custom list of mods/configs in multimc. You can manually update the mods in your multimc just by copying between your FTB pack folder and multimc instance folder -- there may be an automated method to do this, but i just manually do it.

I liked the Multimc console a little better than the FTB one.

Thankd for the advice I'll try that, although I don't have alot of experience with MultiMC, but then again nor do I with FTB :)

Off the top of my head I am going to guess you are getting an error because you are removing TC3 and not the related bees.

I think he is adding thaumcraft and rei minimap and trying to remove xycraft and voxelmap.

On the voxelmap it just requires lite loader. The other voxel mods use lite loader as well, so don't remove lite loader unless you pull out all the voxel mods. They are all cosmetic mods, so should not impact an existing world if you add/remove them.

You should be able to remove xycraft without any impact to other mods or dependency issues. Once you get a look at the console you should be able to better troubleshoot what forge is sad about.

One thing on the rei vs voxelmap. I believe the packs switched to voxel because REI's was a source of some of those world leak errors.

I only play one world per multiMC instance, so havn't noticed voxelmap issues with multiple worlds -- that might be a work around if that was your main issue with voxelmap.

How are you reading that?
Like a poorly worded sentence that is ambiguous. Which is why I said the thread. Go back, read the whole thread again. Or if you are lazy (which seems apparent) just the part where he describes what he is doing step by step, that might provide some insight. People lay out their step by step process to clear up communication errors, it is disrespectful to just skip it when providing help.

I will try to be as unambiguous as possible, and describe the best I can what I have just tried to do.

The console is back and I can see the messages (I don't know how to include them as a spoiler though).

1) Deleted everything in my FTB folder.
2) Run the FTB lancher, via my .bat file ( which consists of this ("C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xms3G -Xmx6G -jar FTB_Launcher.jar))
3) At the launcher OPTIONS page click force update, then click launch. All this is done when FTB ultimate is highlighted on the mods pack page.
4) The game launches. At the main minecraft game menu I quit and return to the launcher.
5) I then EDIT MODS, I disabled Voxelcommon, Voxelmap, Voxelmenu, Voxelpacket and Voxel player.
6) Launched the game.
7) got a message saying there is a new mod pack available do I want to download I say no and the game launches.
8) I start a new map, nearly drown as I have spawned in water, I swim to get to land (maybe 20 - 30 blocks) and quit the game.

From this I can say that the initial problem of the forge error message was probably from not removing a dependancy, because the voxel map was missing from the game.

However the reason for actually wanting to edit the mods is because I get the world memory leaks, and on loading this game all I did was swim to shore which is basically a volcano in the middle of the ocean, no actual land mass to me seen. As soon as I started to move red errors appeared on the console. After I landed on shore, sure enough I got this:-

2013-03-18 17:52:43 [SEVERE] [ForgeModLoader] Detected leaking worlds in memory. There are 2 worlds that appear to be persisting. A mod is likely caching the world incorrectly

2013-03-18 17:52:43 [SEVERE] [ForgeModLoader] The world 3f7f42e7 (New World) has leaked.

If someone could tell me how to place the whole log in a spoiler I will do taht but I really don't want to put it in the message since it's huge.

I wanted to be able to remove the mods one at a time so I can try to pinpoint the problem. I'd be quite happy to keep all of the mods, but if I'm getting world memory leaks when I only have 1 game in play and I've only just started it, this is a huge problem.

I think the leaking worlds message was an addition to forge to help the mod devs identify when they might be loading/holding onto world data incorrectly. Worlds have been leaking long before the message was added. The leaks indicate bad practice, but don't always lead to ever increasing memory usage and a crash. In some cases the garbage collector is able to eventually reclaim the memory, so the leak resolves, it just does not unload when forge expects it to or when it optimally would. I think i saw in a video it was added to softly encourage forge devs to use world data better or simply make them aware of the issue.

If you just want to play the pack -- try to play and if you get a crash then check the console. Otherwise most of the stuff that shows in red in the console is not game-breaking. The crashes i have seen in the pack are usually player triggered rather than bad system resource usage/management.

It's good to know that the red error messages are not necessarily game breaking, but unfortunately the reason I came here in the first place was because it grinds the game to halt. Eventually, the game just stops running and all I can do is use task manager to close it down.

I just thought it would be a good idea to try and isolate the offending mod and remove it. But then nothings really easy with this game :)

Does it grind to a hault no matter what you do/where you are, or was it just after you built up a base?

Might not be the world leaks bringing you down. Could just be poor performance triggered by mod blocks.

I personally have seen FPS hits from railcraft tanks/boilers -- seemed to be any railcraft multi-block structure.
Redpower relays and microblocks or too many redpower machines in one chunk.

If you are just after the world leaks i thought for some versions people had issues with the chickencore mods -- chunks, ender chests, and wireless redstone.

Issues with all these mods are rather dynamic. An issue this week might get fixed the next and other mods may introduce new issues.

I haven't had the chance to build a base yet, I have dug out the beginnings of a base (if you can call a 7 x 7 square a base). I've explored a little in the games, i'm assuming within the 1000 block limit of voxel since my waypoints have always been in view. To give you an idea I've seen maybe 3 or 4 sunrises before it fails.

What happens is the FPS drops to about 10 then to nothing about 20 secs later and it just hangs. Then I just have to task manager quit.

EDIT: I'm just going to play the game as is and when it happens again I'll try to post a log of what happened, because it could well be something I'm doing. I'm very much a casual Minecraft player so it wouldn't surprise me if it was me.
