Pretty much what is says :) I would really like to learn how this stuff works. Can it power thermal expansion stuff and Ic2 if so is there a basic machine to start this. I seen some engine things but I have 0 clue how to get them to run. If you have some super helpful videos that helped you please link them. I would love to learn these and eventually make one of those massive reactors haha Thanks guys :)

First, you need a blast furnace. Only the Rotarycraft version will work. Then, you need to use it to make a Workbench. Then, you need a Steam Engine. You will need to use it to power a grinder.
Punch grass until you get canola. Farm it, and put it in the grinder for lubricant. Lubricant is used for gearboxes.

Ah ok could I make MFR farm to get canola you think? Cause I read that lubricant is very important for these machines. I found a video a long time on how to make some crazy steam engine with like 30 some engines on there with gates to control itself. Then if it over heats it shuts itself down. Would one of these be good for what is going on?

RotaryCraft Fans will far outpace the MFR machines for farming.

Canola is pretty simple; use whatever farming method you like.

It also multiplies quickly: you'll have more than you know what to do with, unless you're running hydroelectrics (which consume a lot of it)

I recommend you pick a target machine, such as the extractor, and slowly build up your RoC infrastructure to the point that you can build and run it smoothly.

Consider the steam engine a good "very early power" target, since its essentially free energy: you don't need to supply it with any fuel other than water.

Ok thank you :)

So I take it you just ignore the DC engine then?
Why would you make some water pumping apparatus when you can power entry level stuff with a redstone torch :p

SERIOUSpoast:

- Steam engines are good to start out
- Magnetostatic engines were the standard (because they take in RF and turn it into rotary power, so you can get into RoC while having oldschool previous level TE power equipment :p), but you get sternly told off for doing it these days and the engines are tiered so the entry level ones are a bit crappy and it takes a lot more RoC infrastructure to make them useful.
- Gasoline engines are nice, and the ethanol production setup you'll need to fuel them is also handy later for the Gas turbine, which is just awesome.

Oh, or you could just do what the crazy geniuses do and get started on Reactorcraft early on. Apparently you can make a nice functional fission reactor setup that isn't crazily expensive and hook that up to a turbine.

Thank you I will try my best to absorb everything everyone said learn it and give it a try :)

Oh i forgot to add, if you have RF powered things that you want to use, but your main base power supply is rotarycraft, you can use a rotational dynamo and run RoC power into it, which will get turned into RF at a very generous ratio. I power an entire wall of TE and enderIO machines, 108 BC lasers and my entire ME Network off a single dynamo :)

Not at all; one may need the DC engine to get started with tiny projects. For instance, the op can run a sprinkler for your canola farm from one.

16x more powerful :)

Honestly I dislike both engines; I hate magical power created from nothing.

I've developed joke-explanations to help with my immersion. For instance, the DC Electric Engine actually uses the magnetic field of the passing moon to generate its current.

And the steam engine runs on steam, produced by water, heated by...charcoal pixies. Dammit. Forget it, the whole thing makes no sense.

The steam engine is hardly magical since you need a heat source.

It's actually more realistic than normal minecraft. If you dump a bucket of water on a lava flow, you don't get a nice big spread of cobblestone, you get a bumload of steam.

...and you don't consider the permitted heat sources to be a bit...odd? what are the options?
-Netherrack of EverBurning
-Lava of NeverCooling (careful with this one)
-Probably something else that pisses all over the first law of thermodynamics.

Joking aside, I'd be delighted if the lava/fire below were somehow consumed.

I'm going to hawaii in a few weeks. I gather they have volcanoes there so I'll test out your so-called THEORY OF COBBLESTONE.

Also, if you're looking to automate ethanol, I recommend potatoes as your crop of choice. They're good for both ethanol and compost and they work with fans, unlike leaves.
