So for christmas i got a sweet gaming rig, i5 processor, 16gb ddr3 ram, 1tb hard drive, Sweet liquid cooling system, basically everything you could ever need to run feed the beast, but i have had problems with that.

See, whenever i try to run ftb with reasonable graphics settings (considering this computer) i always get a very low fps rate (around 10 or so, but usually as i keep playing, it drops down to 5 and below which is unbearable) i do not see the problem with what i am doing! i have allocated 8 whole gigabytes to feed the beast, and it only uses around one or so, and if i run the task manager whilst playing it says i am only using around 30% of the processor which baffles me. i have basically tried everything i can try (but please, feel free to suggest an easy one i might have skimped over, because i'm stupid like that) and nothing seems to ix it. This is my last hope before i throw my computer out the window.

What pack are you playing on? I was playing on FTB Beta A and started getting horrible, horrible framerates. Until, of all things, I went into IC2's config files and disabled sounds.

Of course, my issue was getting massive amounts of CPU usage (which caused the terrible framerates), but it's a shot in the dark.

Can you give us a detailed list of computer specs such as the exact processor and the GPU?
Have you played more intensive games such as BF3 or the Witcher 2 on this new computer and do you get low FPS on those games?
Have you got 64bit Java?
What is in the world when you experience FPS lag? For instance, RP2 volcanoes, giant trees from ExtraBiomes or a high entity count.

Do you have java 7 64bit because using one or so gig of ram sounds like it may be running 32bit java and the frame rate lag is due to the memory allocated to java being full, just a possibility.

Here is the link to the case i used to build my computer: http://us.shuttle.com/barebone/Models/SH67H3.html
as for the ram (reading from the box itself) it is corsair ddr3 16gb (4 sticks of 4gb) xms3 ram, my processor is the i5 2500k unlocked (my motherboard does not support overclocking, thus i have not overclocked it)
and as for my hard drive i don't really think that matters, although i will say it is 1tb, i am running windows 7, and please feel free to ask me about any other specs i might have missed. java was the last straw for me, as i updated it to the latest version (even though i already had it) of 64 bit java 7, update 10. i usually get vanilla minecraft running on 30-40 fps average with all of the settings maxed out.
For the topic of what makes me lag, i have noticed that my computer will start off at about 20 fps, shortly after, it will drop down to ten and then the dreaded 5 fps after that. it really does not matter where i am, as i have loaded so many save files of different world, all seeming to lag wherever i go. Loading chunks does not seem to affect the lag, as i have tried putting optifine's chunk loading settings on every setting (default, smooth, multi-core, ect) and smooth and multi-core do not seem to help (although smooth does help a little bit, but that too is still baffling, as my i5 has four cores!) i am playing on the mindcrack modpack, althogh the direwolf20 modpack does similar things.

What video card are you running? if it's a Nvidia one you have to go into the Nvidia control panel and disable threaded optimization since it conflicts with Optifine, also the multi-core chunk loading in Optifine is somewhat buggy, shouldn't be a contributing factor to this issue but I'm just mentioning it, use smooth.

maybe your pc doesnt detect FTB as game, but something else, so it uses integrated crapphics card instead of the dedicated one.

Strange...with an i5 2500k irrespective of what GPU you have, you should have a FPS of at least 100 on a far render setting (at the very least on vanilla).
However, one thing comes to mind now that I see the small case and that is maybe potential overheating especially if you're using the stock CPU fan.
Go download Real Temp which monitors your CPU temperature, go play Minecraft and when it does drop to 5fps, check your CPU temperature. If it's anything above 80c, then it might cause the CPU to down throttle in performance causing the low FPS.

I had the same issue yesterday. My FPS hits zero, then shoots back up again.

I think it's ExtraBiomes and Textures, but can't be certain.
I discovered a Village in a redwood forest, I was exploring it, then decided to leave, when I got hit by the drops in FPS. As soon as most, but not all of the Forest was behind me, FPS was "stable" again. But, the FPS was fine when I first found the village and explored it.

So, I turned my texture pack back to default, and set it to non-fancy settings. Was getting the same issues, at the forest, but also in the middle of a plains.

My belief is that there's a mod in the pack that is causing the issues when combined with all the other mods, but I haven't been able to track it down.

There is an issue with Intel integrated graphics that I've seen in a few places, it doesn't seem to work that well in Minecraft for some reason. That may not be the case here but I have seen reports of it here and there. (also for gaming I still wouldn't use an integrated graphics solution, though that may be the old school comp gamer in me heh)

as my i5 has four cores!)

As far as I know, Minecraft should only run a single core, which is why I ordered a 4.2 GHz processor with 4 cores. Basically a 4.2 GHZ processor with 4 cores is better to run Minecraft, than a 3.6 GHz processor with 6 cores. The processor with 6 cores can run some other programs much better, for example video editing software.

Thing is an i5 2500k can easily run Minecraft especially with 16GB of RAM in excess of 100FPS.

Yes but I also just wanted to mention that. Another thing is that a single game can only run with a maximum of 8GB.

Mr.Moo, can you post a log, so we can see if it has something to say.

IT'S DR.MOO, MIND YOU! lol jk, but what log would you like me to post? and as for the integrated graphics card, that is the only graphics card i have... i am saving up to buy a 2gb graphics card anyways, and already have the money, it is just a matter for me to see where i can buy it from. overheating should NEVER be a problem with this case (as far as i hope, although if i stick my hand in the air it blows out, my estimate is that it would be 90 degrees ferenhiet or so? that is only because the cpu is cooled by water.) as the case comes with it's own cooling system. (just look at the link, i's boss :D)

basically all i am trying to do now is pinpoint the problem. remember, it's not optifine, i had the problems before that

you will always have an integrated graphics card, you need to force your dedicated one to use ftb.

ps: I have an intel i5 sandy bridge dual core, with intel HD graphics 3000 and can run vanilla (w/ optifine) on 60 fps stable, ftb on 40 stable (with some lag spikes) but if I put tree leaves on fancy or enable fog (in far) it goes down.

The things is, i do not have a dedicated graphics card, (i have the integrated graphics card that came with the case) and i think that is the problem. i have ordered a graphics card and i will be able to pick it up tommorow, and (hopefully) it will fix the problem.

So what I take away from this is integrated graphics still basically suck but are usable, cause I'm running a Core 2 Duo\9800GT(512mb)\2gb RAM on WinXP(32bit) and I get higher framerates than that (with everything on fancy, normal render(RAM\32bit limited), full fog) but integrated graphics don't suck as badly as they used to, when they were barely capable of running office and if you tried to use certain functions in powerpoint they choked and died :D
