Is there a way to monitor the temperature/state of your Railcraft Boiler?

Why? Well, what happened just now is quite bizarre:

I was in my basement/boiler room, building a solid-fuel (SC farm) to complement my existing Oil->Fuel setup, when I happened to notice the temperature of my current boiler was down to only 600 degrees. What?? I have a full 9x9x8 of both oil and a three-quarters full tank of fuel being fed by three refineries. How can this be?

Looking across at my fuel tank, its empty! On closer inspection, I realize the tank itself is in an invalid state. Okay - so I must have broken a block by accident, right? Nothing seems out of place inspecting the outside. Hmm. So I break a couple of blocks and step into the tank. Voila! There's a grass block sitting on the base of the tank!! What !?

Well I did encounter an Enderman downstairs an hour earlier, gave him a swipe with my sword but he teleported away. As he was carrying a dirt block at the time, its clear he shifted into the tank!! Not sure if this is a bug or just an unexpected scenario. Thought it was worth sharing. $%^#^# Enderman

Not that I expect this to ever happen again, but how could one monitor a boiler?

That KEEPS happening on my server. We finally got fed up and moved our tanks to an always-day Mystcraft world.

Isn't there a way to turn off mob greifing? So that they are unable to destroy/move blocks that you place.

The real question is why would you want to? Endermen greifing sounds like one of those unexpected features, just a small little wtf and the immediate hatred of them everywhere. At least your boiler was in no threat of blowing up.

Cool story.

Gates can monitor boiler temperature. Not to a super accurate degree, but you can put a howler alarm on it after you get it hot. Have the gate check for hot and put a not gate or block with a torch on it and if that torch ever comes on your boiler is not hot.
Gates act like repeaters and put power into any block touching them, so no need for redstone off the gate into the block with a torch on it as long as it is touching the gate it should work.

I think fuel level is in the gate also -- that might only be the solid boilers. If you can measure fuel level that might react faster. Alert you when fuel drops to 0.

You can probably protect against endermen automatically a couple ways.
A forcefield can kill mobs in an area. Probably before it drops its block.

I think a shroud of water will prevent the enderman from teleporting through. Maybe a forcefield would prevent it as well.

Just keep your boiler in an enclosure that endermen can't fit into. I've sheathed mine in a tight shell of construction foam to keep the grief at bay.

Endermen only pick up naturally occuring blocks, like smooth stone, dirt, sand etc. never a player made block. So turning off griefing won't do much for you, especially if you have a house made of planks or some such, since they will ignore it.

Remember that time where Endermen have taken anything and everything they could get their hands on?

My bedroom never looked the same again after they took my diamond block :(.
