don't worry I still have a rom but my old one had a fun glitch. And before anyone here starts to "hate" me for using roms, I am talking about the gameboy color versions and I still have silver but battery died

edit to long since I played pokemon gold but does it have random events? just got an ingame call saying that a whole lot of {forgot name of pokemon} have showed up near route 35

That is a swarm, not really random if I remember right. I think it goes by day
