Hi,

I've finally finished my first modpack and tried to put it on my private hosted server but the CPU usage is almost always at 90-100% (on a fresh world and when I'm the only one logged in) unless I don't move... I tried a lot things, for hours, but nothing fixed it... It's a real headhache.

I can't find the problem, even with Opis... I have some minor issues (for example with the ice shard item of Chisel mod which seems to be created massively instead of vanilla ice in snowy biomes apparently (from what I understand from Opis) but when you look at it it's ice; or massive amount of aether crystal tree saplings / leaves generating sometimes on some BoP biomes) and a bunch of entities due to CMS and Mo'creatures but it can be just that, right?

I don't know what to do anymore...

I have no lag for now but we will soon be 3 on this server and we want to do stuff, so I'm dreading...

Here is the list of mods, server side, if it helps (I don't use JAS anymore but CMS due to issues with JAS spawning settings):

It would also help if you posted a crash report to narrow the issues down.

EDIT: Not only that but you have a lot of mods that affect world gen. Some of these don't play well with others. Try removing one at a time to weed out the problem child.

The problem is that the server is already created now so I can't remove most of the mods. I've fixed some things and removed Lycanites Mobs and it's better. It's ok when we're both 3 in the same location (the CPU at these moments is around 60%) but when we move around and generate terrain the CPU goes to 90-100% (even if the RAM is stable at 50-60%). And it's when we got crashes...

Here are the 3 crash report of today:

http://pastebin.com/CH0YBp9s
http://pastebin.com/iT1226Wf
http://pastebin.com/YCYcV0SV

But, again, nothing seems wrong at launching (and it this setup is totaly ok in SSP).

Thanks a lot for helping me!

Just from looking through at your cpu/ram setup the -Xmx4000M is about 500 more than your allocated 3.5 will push. Try dropping this down to 3k so that would put you .5 under to allow the server to run. Granted it may lag a bit due to my previous post but it should at least handle it. If all else fails, try my first post, delete your /world folder. This will delete your world yes but welcome to the fun times of modded minecraft. BTW, you will more than likely have to reset your world a few times in order to get things working properly.

As it sounds that you understand what I mean when I brought up the world gen mods. This means every time the 3 of you walk around generating new chunks....well there's 3 of you generating new chunks at the same time.

I forgot to say that before crashes sometimes the console said "can't keep up..." and when it crashes it always said "reached end of stream".

It seems strange to reduce allocated RAM but well, I will try that. I hope it will works!

I perfectly undestand what you mean for the world gen, but I still hope to find a way to make it works...

And yea, I can only agree that the modpack side of minecraft is pretty tough...

The problem with this is you are allocating more RAM than the server has to offer ATM. You are allocating 4k when the server only has 3.5 max.

It's preferred to actually give the server about a Gig to play with but since there are only 3 of you on it may work ok. If not try dropping it another .5

The thing is I don't manage this myself since my server is hosted by roxservers. I just told them to increase the RAM amount when I put the modpack...
But I asked them to reduce it to 3Go so we will try like that and see what happens.

No, you dont need to reduce the RAM. What do you have in the server.bat file? See, it looks like you set a max RAM at 4k or is that from the modpack?

For instance, here is what I put in my server.bat:

java -Xms2G -Xmx1G -XX:permSize=2G -jar minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar nogui
pause

Read here: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Setting_up_a_server

I don't have access to the server.bat, it's the hosting website which manage this... I just tell them how much RAM I need and they allocate it for me. That said, I don't know how they "handle" their RAM...

Maybe I have to ask for an increase of the PermGen and keep 4Go or RAM, or it's not necessary..?

You don't have access to any of the files via FTP?
If not then yeah, tell them to fix it. Be sure to send them the link to your crash report. It's just odd that you dont have access to the files :/

Of course I do, but the server.bat is not located in there...

And about the PermGen, what do you think?

EDIT: Also, they don't care much about crash reports... They say it's my modpack fault... :(

And we're back to square one then. From that info, the only thing I can suggest is removing some of the mods that alter world gen like I said in my first post lol
If you don't have the ability to alter the server to support your modpack then you need to alter the modpack to the capabilities of your server, sorry.

I can alter it but not completely so I guess you're right...

Anyway, thanks for your help and receptiveness!

NP, sorry it had to come to that conclusion though.

Well, I'm not very good at making modpacks (at least my first one...), it's not your fault if I can't achieve to make something that works smoothly at the end...

At least you tried to help me and I appreciate it!
