This has always been a problem with mods in any game that supports modding really. A mod may not update as the core game updates. It's easy to mitigate that with Minecraft but at a loss, and that is that you'll never get to see new stuff. You can keep playing the 1.4.7 pack but with no updated versions of the other mods (in case RP2 doesn't update) in MultiMC.

Personally I don't get too attached to mods, even if I like them a great deal. That's why I moved to MultiMC instead of the FTB launcher and started my own modpack. I updated to 1.5.1 because Ars Magica updated pretty fast but Thaumcraft and Forestry weren't so... I'll add them when they update. If they don't, well not much I can do. I want the newest versions in Minecraft, whether it's vanilla or mods. Minecraft comes first, mods come second.

But trust me, I know your issues 'cause I'm waiting for a texture pack to be updated but the process is reaaaally slow, maybe the t.p. author is Eloraam's brother :D

edit: That's why I mentioned in the specific thread that I'm starting to miss vanilla, the simplicity of it is awesome and there's nothing to worry about...

I don't know. It's hard for me to fathom someone getting stressed out over a sandbox game. :)
Modded Minecraft is whatever I want it to be. I modified the Ultimate pack to what I wanted. I took out GT because I don't like it. I didn't post a forum question about it because I don't care what others think. It's my version of Minecraft and noone else is going to be affected by that decision. I've added a number of mods that I like that FTB doesn't think belongs in their packs. Who cares? No stress for me. I run it as a server for family and friends and we have a grand ol' time. Not worried about what FTB or what people on these forums think.
I've also started putting together a 1.5.1 pack to try out new and updated mods that I am interested in. Again, I could care less about the politics of updating- who's who, what's what and why. I find I'm enjoying the new mods and am thinking that IC2 won't be a part of my next upgrade, for instance. Not going to fret about what anybody else thinks, because I don't care.
It's cool that there is an FTB around that can help lay some initial groundwork but I'm certainly not going to let it dictate what is supposed to be fun for me or have me worried about what will and won't be upcoming in the future. I'm too old to be stressing out about miniscule things as that.
Now, I can see the stress in getting too involved with these here forums. As a repository of useful and intelligent information regarding the mechanics of the involved mods, there is no equal. I've learned tons by just reading and learning from those offering up their expertise on these mods. As far as the topics relating to opinions and speculation, they all end up being train wrecks. ( I do admit to following some of these 'train wrecks' as they happen - rp2, gt - but certainly stay away from contributing to them).
Just seems a waste of time stressing over stuff you can't control. Take charge of what you CAN control and make it enjoyable for yourself. Take a deep breath, put RP2 concerns behind you (can't control that), discount and don't take to heart any opinions voiced on these forums (that's all they are and won't affect your personal MC game) and put those behind you and enjoy what we are ABLE to do with the modded minecraft we do have available to us.

Well I still have a major decision. When the time comes would I ditch whatever mods didnt update for the new stuff, or not. Neither of those sound like good choices

In 1.5.1? Yes, I did, I'm quite used to it though. Since I've starting playing with FTB's Magic World and now with my pack, I've changed lots of worlds for various reasons, I've never kept a world for long and I don't mind that, that's just me though. And they way I play, I don't lose much stuff if I need restart. You tech guys though build big and complex, it's worse for you...

I heard afew mods I don't use. Mostly Redpower. The reason is gregtech. It's that I'd use the redpower wires to power my engines for my quarry, but with the expensive recipe, I've changed my quarrying to a mine dug by turtles. I don't need nearly as much power for my forestry stuff so I don't use redpower at all. I'm one of those people who wouldn't care about it updating or not... except the fact of the volcanos it makes. I don't use them unless if I want to really decorate. but the thing is, when they're gone, lava would be like oil, in the air high. but lava kills you.

My suggestion would be to leave the forums and just play FTB, the forums are the Drama not the packs, and frankly most the people on here are un-educated people here parts of a conversation and make a huge DRAMA out of it. its better just to play and have fun than stressing over what people say

It sounds like what you need is a change of pace. Might I suggest this?
Alternatively, you could try this.
Maybe you just need some laughs, for which I recommend this, because astronauts are people too.
If you would prefer some late twentieth century poetry with a fresh, gangsta twist, enjoy this.

And, of course, there's always promising little green men you'll send them to the Mun but they actually die a horrible painful death halfway there. That's fun.

I do have a lot of fun building stuff with my friends but I am always worried about what happens if redpower doesn't update and/or FTB updates without it. Or is MFFS gonna be included in future packs? and what version. Is the Extra biomes rewrite gonna break my world. I would be happy just staying in 1.4.7 if it weren't for all the new stuff modders are adding in 1.5. Like I really want to play around with the new modems and lan cables, but then I probably wouldn't touch computercraft without redpower,

I don't worry about it at all. I'm not interested in an FTB modpack without RP, so if it goes to 1.5 without RP then I'll stay at 1.4.7, as will the server I play on.
