Sorry if this is the wrong section, I'm new to this forum.

By broken I'm talking about the anvil bug. I don't think this mod is supported anymore due to ShadwDrgn not being seen on the forums since Jan 2nd.

Are there any other mods out there that are similar to SS and haven't been presumed abandoned?

After the showing of the creeper items I am inclined to say he is probably dealing with real life stuff as well as updating to 1.x

I was talking to Richard G on the IRC earlier, and I assume that the anvil bug is the same/similar for IC2 tools and soul shards. He said that the bug was due to Forge, and that it will eventually be fixed. I wouldn't worry too much about it, and honestly, just don't abuse the glitch if you don't want to!

Soul Shards was so popular because it was so singularly well done. Really it doesn't have good replacements in the mod world. Let's hope the author can get things sorted out for 1.5. I'd say Soul Shards is quietly one of the more important and amazing mods out there. It offers a large time (and adventure!) investment to automate rare resource collection in a wonderful way.

From http://www.minecraftforum.net/user/726838-shadwdrgn/: "Last Active Mar 16 2013 09:19 PM"

That aside, if Shadwdrgn does decide to drop the mod, hopefully someone else will pick it up, as it's a fairly good mod. But at this point, better to just wait to see if he updates to 1.5.
I wish we had some sort of confirmation from him that he is working on it, or that he plans to but has other IRL matters to attend to.

I don't but I can't control everyone else on the server that I'm on.
Unfortunately, the server admins don't want an unsupported mod in our new custom pack.

There is no reason to consider it unsupported as the author is still active on the MineCraftForums. It'll be an issue when most other mods are updated to 1.5, and his is not (along with RedPower2, of course).

Fair enough. Worse comes to worst, you may have to disable it for the time being. That said, you could suggest to the others that they don't abuse the glitch.

Well, there is Minefactory Reloaded. Not sure the release in Ultimate has the block you need(fairly certain it doesn't, in fact), but it has a block called a AutoSpawner. It's somewhat similar in of that you get a item, put it in the spawner, and when given a redstone signal craps out entities like a white person eating salad in Mexico. The difference is unlike Soul Shards, you need a fuel source for it. Pump in Liquid Mob Essence(which is obtained from killing things with the MFR Mob Grinder) and give it a filled Safari Net, and you get more mobs. The problem is you need a decent amount of Liquid Mob Essence to run it for a decent period of time(I think more then what you would get from ramming mobs into your Grinders from the Autospawner), and of course, it requires energy to run as well.(#FirstWorldProblems)

The good news is it is great for villager spawning.(grab a useless villager with a safari net, set up a AutoSpawner, and crap out villagers until you get the one you want)
If you catch a pink sheep and want to clone sheep you get all colors as well, actually, unless you hit the button which makes it only make entities with the same data flags(so only pink sheep, for example, or only blacksmith villagers). It doesn't save their inventory, though, to prevent exploits.(so you can't find a zombie which can wear armor, give him full diamond and throw a Iridium Ore for him to hold and crap out zombies holding all these items if I understand correctly)

Is the 'crap out' animated?

Soulshards is nice, but to me very exploitable/overpowered. Hope some sort of draining/supply system is added to give a cost to maintain shards. I think system like this was mentioned in the mod's thread.

I have been trying to follow Shadwdrgn for a while, but he's been really staying low for the past 2 months. he hasn't uploaded any videos to his youtube, and rarely comments on the comments on his videos.
he's even more staying low on the MCF, with his last post being in january.
I don't think he has a twitter or facebook, so right now we have no idea if he's busy IRL or if something else came up, nor if he's working on a 1.5 port.

as for the anvil, Shadwdrgn replied to a video saying

You're incompetent if you honestly think I wrote a mod that makes you kill 1024 mobs OR 10. You SERIOUSLY think it's SUPPOSED to let you just bypass my ENTIRE BALANCING SYSTEM by sticking a couple items in an anvil? What could POSSIBLY make you believe that?

and someone replied with

Hey there, so it's a bug in forge. Couldn't you disable Soul Shard use in anvils?
which Shadwdrgn replied with

no. that's the bug.

Thing is anything can be exploitable..even vanilla. Best to get a job working on high rises buildings and pray to fall off

Depends, in the real life example, very much so, often including heavy swearing and occasional death threats. In MFR, not so much. But considering how much EU/t you can pump in from even one side, that's a good thing.(as with all MFR blocks, you can give it up to 10 MJ/t per side, and that's actually pretty slow. But they can accept up to HV EU from my tests, and that's almost too fast to consider using on some blocks, but downright insane on the autospawner)
Problem is, you give the autospawner enough liquid mob essence and a high amount of EU/t, it's even harder to clean up then the real life comparison example.
