Enhanced Portals was removed because it broke nether portals. Even in .8 if you made a nether portal and came back it would make a whole new one randomly and consistently until you removed it from the pack.

I had this problem in 152wgt 0.7, but it seems to be fixed in 152wgt 0.8. None of us have had that issue since the update.
