I'm am having the hardest time getting mobs to spawn on my SMP server, I have read around and done all the basic things you would ask me to do. Below is some technical info about my server and methods I have taken to help remedy the situation.

FTB Ultimate 1.1.2
Start script:
START "FTBUltimate1.bat" /NORMAL /MIN java -Xms1G -Xmx5G -jar ftbserver.jar nogui

MODS:
All standard mods that come with FTB Ultimate 1.1.2 in addition to [1.4.6]TreeCapitator.Forge.1.4.6.r03.Uni.CoreMod

Steps taken:
View distance was changed from 10 to 7 at one point, did not resolve.
Changed /gamerule doMobSpawning true, did not resolve.
Changed Difficulty to hard, did not resolve.
Deleted and rebuilt and .properties file, did not resolve.
Removed everything but the world and reloaded everything, did not resolve.
Loaded the world up in single player on another PC, did not resolve.
At some point the mobs came back but only for a day or 2 and have vanished again. Spawners still work and we only see very few mobs if lucky normally 1 or 2 at best.

Server Properties:

PLEASE HELP!

I should mention that they did indeed spawn before, quite often and saturated the land.

I will investigate and get back to you, I'm at work now. What would be your suggested course of action if I find one?

I do know of a dark node outside the front door to my base buried underground....

Try restarting the server on peaceful to get rid of all mobs, then turn it back to whatever you use. See if this will allow mobs to spawn. If it does, it's most likely because the barrow hill (dark node) spews so much stuff in the world that there's no "space" for normal mobs to spawn ^^

Just solved the problem. Download the server from scratch, started a new world (nothing specific). Then i copied the DIM, region, players, properties, whitelist, ops, computercraft programs, level.dat, session.lock, and etc. folders/files from my backup to the current world. started the world up and we have mobs. I also had my brother go creative and remove the dark nodes from the bases and did not see a direct impact on mobs this morning. But this method of only copying the most crucial files from the world seemed to work, at least for the time being. Only time will tell and I will update this post if necessary. Thank you for your help buddy!
