I'm not complaining about the mining drill, that was the OP, I'm complaining about the mod. About how block's require compressors. How that makes steves carts not work as well, how that makes IC2 required for use of anything that requires dark iron in factorization, about how the tendrils of change and contamination reach out to touch almost everything else in the modpack.

And you keep saying "just remove it".

That's not defending the inclusion of gregtech in the modpack, that's just refusing to discuss it.

Oh, and water mills, it makes those harder in the next version. Lasers, it makes those harder in the next version. More and more there's nothing you can do in IC2 that isn't changed by greg. More and more it's messing up the other mods in the pack as well.

I don't think it made me skip any recipes but eh. Not sure what the bunch will say once they try to make UU matter in gregtech if apparently even a mining drill is too hard

IC mostly made me skip nuclear reactors though cause they seem a pain to plan and build, so uh guess that can be for any mod depending on the person

Also i'm defending the inclusion by saying you can disable (note, not remove) it if you dislike it anyway :p

Imo it adds tons for depth to IC and IC Progression that it needed, also balances out the quantum stuff quite nicely

lol, wait until you see the requirement to make quantum tank if you don't install Metallurgy 2..

quantum tank? thats like a liquid storage version of quantum chest?
yes, but you need 4 platinum ingots which are obtained either from Metallurgy 2 or grinding Iridium OREs..(1 Iridium Ores gives 2 tiny piles of platinum, 4 tp dusts= 1 dust).. well it's an end-game item so it should be hard to obtain..

I'm ok with gregtech messing with IC2 crap. Thats fine, its an IC2 add-on, so if it wants to "balance" IC2, let it.
But I am not ok with it forcing people to build IC2 machines (which thanks to TE and others in the pack we finally didn't need.) in order to progress In Factorization, Railcraft, or Redpower2, because it decided to mess with the vanilla minecraft recipes. Those other mods are NOT IC2 add-ons, IC2 machines should not be required to play them.

also mildly annoyed at it changing the quarry recipe, but that's just low level grumpiness.

are you saying about the compressor? yeah.. just revert that one back to vanilla, the rest is fine..
haha the quarry recipe.. yeah from pickaxe to diamond drill...seems more realistic to me..

Actually changing it from pickaxe to a mining laser would be better.

There is a miner and a quarry. If the recipes are going to be changed, it should be a drill for the miner and a laser for the quarry.

or Diamond Drill for both

Personally, I like the way GregTech balances out the mods. It makes it feel like they are one single mod, instead of 38 separate ones.

Ore, as in 1 per chunk, via silk touch. As in manual mining only?

Why should anything late game require any sort of manual labour, shouldn't end game be things that you have to spend lots of time building automation for, and then check back in three days to see if there's enough... then spend an hour putting parts together until the final assembly of tier 5 subparts makes the final magic item?

Not, "you just worked 50 hours to build those things, but you can't use any of them when you are looking for this" ...

This does give industrial TNT a use mind you. Blow up half the nether, then pump away the lava and any blocks left are either bedrock or iridium.

I think it's great how much it expands on the pack. It should stay out of the recipes for low level stuff though. You're not going to be able to make a blast furnace or a centrifuge for a while so it makes it tough to enjoy the packs at a steady pace throughout the game. You'll have to grind for quite a while and i don't think that is the purpose of automation.

That's pretty lame. No idea how to do that. If I disable gregtech is that going to mess up ore generation?
How is it lame that a modpack uses the included mods together?

Anyway. Your game, your choice. And the awesome launcher lets you easily disable a mod if you don't like it.

You can get a blast furnace before you find diamonds. Get iron (or tin, if that's enabled) buckets, obsidian cast a portal, find a nether fortress, gather materials. I generally have horrible luck finding diamonds, so I go for steel so I can have the electric tools as soon as possible.

I don't see how that's possible at all. It takes a while to find the amount of magma cream needed for a blast furnace. And finding a fortress is no stroll in the park either.

Magma cream is just slimeballs with blaze powder (which is why you are going to a nether fortress in the first place). So once you find that fortress, magma cream is taken care off... unless you get really unlucky and can't find any slimes underground or any swamp biomes. Then it becomes really annoying because you have to start breeding bees or wait for the slow Factorization crystallizer to process.

Newer versions of GregTech let you craft an alternative Blast Furnace that doesn't need magma cream. It costs plenty of metals though, so if you CAN build the railcraft one without issues, then it'll still be the better option.

I'll just disable the recipes. Doesn't make sense to need advanced machines to create the materials needed for lower tier ones.

That's a matter of definition, is it not? Some people may call the mining drill a low tier machine because it's the first thing they try to craft; others may call it an endgame item because it's the best possible tool for digging anything not requiring silk touch.
