Hello Everyone!

Are you looking for a new challenge, a different way to play Minecraft? Do you want to test your designs against more than just mindless Zombies, but want to be able to build and experience the Tech Mods without constant Griefing? Then join our Factions server:

Important: If you are new to SMP in general or Factions in particular, please read the Faction information in Section III. Also Read Section III.2. for quick info on exactly how factions works on our server.
If you just want plain info on the server, skip to IV.
Update: Quarries have been un-banned and are now available.

Adress:
survival.minesphere.eu

Also visit our website

Our Key features:
  • We offer a custom Factions plugin that combines all the features of Factions version 1 and 2: Different Protections for offline and online Factions that allow you to effectively attack and defend bases.
  • Our Staff is experienced in running Minecraft servers, and includes an active Java Developer with a Masters degree in Computer science. We are slowing fixing existing bugs and introducing new features in cutom mods and plugins.
  • We offer a Jobs-based economy with player shops. Gain experience and Gold by mining or farming.
  • We try to keep banned items at a Minimum and offer creative ways of Warfare.
I. Who are we?

We are a small group of 20-something Minecraft players, who were looking for a different way to play the game consisting of modded-Minecraft Veterans as well as newer players used to Vanilla Minecraft. We are commited to offer a fair environment: There will be no pay-2-win Donation shop, and our admins and Moderators will not abuse their power. While a Factions server is supposed to have a somewhat competitive atmosphere, we strive to nevertheless stay friendly and not be immediately aggressive. We want new players to get established and wont simply bomb everyone to the ground.

II. Why a Factions server?

The server is intended to offer a unique experience with new design challenges: Protect you base against enemy raids or figure out how to break the defenses of others. The Direwolf 20 Pack offers many cool ways to protect your base, and here you can finally try them. On the other hand, a pure anarchy sever offers so many ways for griefing that a decent buildup is hard unless you hide your base far away from the action. Factions gives you basic protection against griefing, while still requiring smart design to prevent more sophisticated attacks. When no member of your Faction is online, your territory will be save from access and explosions. When online, however, Explosions can destroy your base and players can interact with Chests, wooden doors, Levers, buttons, etc. It is up to you to figure out how to prevent them from getting in - or at least make them pay.

III. Information on Factions and the server Economy

1. Introduction to our Plugins:
Our Server runs two Plugins that are central to gameplay: Factions and Jobs. You need a Faction to protect yourself, but Factions require money. That money can be gained by taking up a job. You can look for jobs by typing "/jobs browse". The currently available jobs include the Miner, who gains money and exp for breaking stone and ores, the Digger, who is responsible for digging dirt, sand and gravel, the farmer, who gains exp for harvesting crops and more. If you want to see what exactly a job does, you can type "/jobs info <jobname>". You may have to open the chat after typing this to see all information. Once decided, you can take up a job via "/jobs join <jobname>".
Once you start doing what your job requires, you will start to gain money. You can look at your balance via "/money". You can pay someone with "/pay <playername> <amount>". Now that you have an income, it's time to look for a faction. The factions on the server can be seen via "/f list". You can join an existing faction via "/f join <factionname>". However, most Factions will be invitation only, which means that you will talk to a faction officer or leader first. They can send you an invite (/f invite), which allows you to join.
But maybe you would like to start your own Faction? Then you will need to create one via "/f create <factionname>". Creating a Faction costs money, though, so you should have some experience in your job first. Once you created a faction, you can claim new land for your faction with "/f claim". This will claim the chunk (16x16 area from Sky to Bedrock) on which you stand. You can use the grid on the Minimap as orientation. However, claiming land and many other faction actions cost money, and since those are actions by the entire faction, that money is not deducted from your personal account: You need to transfer money to your faction account. This can be done via "/f money deposit", "/f money withdraw" and the balance can be checked with "/f money balance". Claimed territory is more secure than just wilderness: Other players will not be able to manipulate the Terrain directly. If you have your first chunk, you should immediately built a shelter there and set a home with "/f sethome". You can then always teleport back to that location via "/f home". You can also teleport back to the spawn at any time using "/spawn". Congratulations: You have laid the foundations for your faction!
After that, you should probably claim some more chunks to give you a secure area to work in. Keep in mind, however, that Factions only offers partial protection. You have to rely on your creativity to really protect your base. On it's most basic level, Factions prevents other players from placing or breaking blocks in your territory. This protection is always enabled as long as you still hold the land. That means even a dirt block is a formidable obstacle to other players. As long as you (or any other member of your faction) are online, though, other players can still interact with your land freely: Use levers or buttons, open wooden doors, and look into chests, your machines, even (and perhaps most importantly) your AE-Network. That means in order to protect those, you need to make them inacessible to intruders. A room that only you can enter is a good start, and later some mods may help you protect your base.
But just making a dirt Fortress won't work: While other players cannot break your blocks directly, they can use explosions and projectile-based attacks to get in. That means eventually, you will need to think about explosion-resistant material for your most valuable assets.
When no member of your Faction is online, you get a little more protection: Explosions won't harm your base, and most vanilla items can not be interacted with: Buttons, Levers and pressure plates, as well as hatches. It is important to note, however, that this protection does not extent to any machines or storage systems (AE!) from mods. Those will always need to be secured. Moreover wooden doors and chests are not protected! Use iron doors with buttons/levers and make sure no-one can open your chests.

2. Quick information on Factions:
  • Faction protection when Members are online:
    • cannot break or place blocks;
    • can interact with all blocks;
    • can destroy blocks via explosives/projectiles
  • Faction protection when Members are offline:
    • cannot break or place blocks;
    • cannot interact with certain vanilla blocks: Levers, Buttons, pressure plates;
    • can interact with any non-vanilla blocks, as well as wooden doors and all chests;
    • cannot destroy blocks via explosives/projectiles.
  • The following Faction commands cost money: /f create, /f claim, /f sethome, /f map.
  • Money can be deposited or withdrawn via /f money d[eposit]/w[ithdraw] <amount>. To see the balance type /f money b[alance].
  • There is no basic /sethome and /home command, only faction homes are possible.
IV. Some of our Plugins:

  • Custom Factions Version
  • Jobs
  • No Cheat Plus
  • MOTD to disable cave mode and player radar: You can now go invisible!
V. Rules and banned items:

Rules:
The rules are simple:
  • Don't verbally harrass other players or make racist remarks;
  • Do not use Cheats, X-ray plugins etc.;
  • No Spam or Advertisements in the chat;
  • Do not abuse any bugs - report them to the staff;
  • Do not intentionally lag or crash the server;
  • Do not circumvent Faction protections: If you find a way to freely alter Faction territory, please report these loopholes so they can be closed and everyone can enjoy a fair fight.
Banned items:
As much as we would like everyone to have the full power of all the mods available, several items have to be banned in order to ensure that the server will not heavily lag, crash, and to make sure the protection plugins work.

  • Chunk loaders: These are too easy to use and can create a lot of load for the server if abused. However, personal Anchors are craftable, and world anchors can be purchased at the spawn.
  • Mining Turtle: Balance reasons, as well as griefing potential. The turtle is way to cheap for what it does, and does not respect faction boundaries. If we can fix the latter, we may sell those at the spawn for an appropriate price.
  • Mystcraft: Currently, the entire mod is disabled due to massive lag spikes and potential age-spam. We are planning to reintroduce both random ages (as events) and custom ages (to be purchased by the faction) soon.
  • Mining Laser: This item offers a relatively cheap way to break into most bases and is therefore banned for balance reasons
  • Wand of Excavation: See above
  • Arcane bore: Due to the habit of draining all the vis, this is currently disabled.
  • Soul Shards and Cages: It's simply not a good idea to spawn thousands of mobs on a server.
  • Gravity Gun: It's a supreme Griefing tool, ignores block protection and has potential issues with server stability.
  • Portal Gun: Actually, the Portal Gun is not directly banned, it just cannot be crafted. So if you should find one, more power to you ;)
  • Update: We have banned the Minium stone (effectively EE3) for now, because it tends to destabilize the economy. We are currently considering options to allow most recipes while keeping some items hard to acquire.
By the way: Yes we doallow nukes and nuclear Warfare. Obviously this will lead to lags, but we are confident that we can handle the occasional explosion.

Vi. Known Bugs:

The Modular Force Field System (MFFS) can currently cause server crashes if a player is killed by an associated machine. Do not operate any zapper modules, and take care that, when crossing a forcefield, you always hold shift until you are well clear of it. We already have a fix, but currently cannot compile the source code because the author doesn't supply the necessary libraries.

Chunk loaders (including the chunk-loading function of the quarry) are currently unstable and will randomly stop working. This is an issue in the MCPC+ framework. The MCPC devs are already aware and are working on a fix. Power systems that rely on loaded chunks, like systems based on farms, are therefore currently prone to failure.

VI. Planned Features:

We plan to introduce Events that will allow players access to mystcraft ages, and the collection of pages. These Events will take place in a public place at the spawn, and everyone will be able to access the randomly generated age. These ages will then be closed after a period of time, to prevent Factions taking permanent residence away from the action.
Furthermore, we plan to give Factions access to custom ages, once they have acquired the necessary pages and probably a fair amount of in-game Money. These ages will, however, stay accessible from the spawn, so that Factions cannot evade being raided by closing of their age.

Currently, we are busy fixing existing bugs and making the mods play along with Factions.

We look forward to seeing you on the minesphere server!

Basically banned half of the pack.....Not for me.
I am sorry to hear that, though I think you are exaggerating slightly.
We are always looking for suggestions to make items available. If you can think of a way to work around the issues highlighted with the banned items, we will be happy to put them back in. As is, out list of banned items is in no way longer than the list of similar servers.

The only items that are really banned are because they either 1. Can break bases with ease, 2. Drain Aura Nodes like crap (though the Magic Bees that you can get through bee breeding fix this) 3. or cause massive lag. Your probably going to find that 75% of servers will have these restrictions. and this server has the light side on the banned items. Some servers ban complete mods!

Edit: Also we should probably update the server to Direwolf 1.1.4 version

Main Post has been updated: Please read the Info on Factions to properly protect you base!

For the time being, the Minium stone has been disabled in order to keep some items high in value. This applies especially to enderpearls, which can be used to run World anchors and are in many high-level recipes. We may reintroduce the minium stone and only ban a few recipes, probably concerning enderpearls/Diamonds.

At the moment we have OPs on nearly 24/7 to restart it if necessary - and find the timing for automatic restarts.
We use http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/autosaveworld/ for backups and restarts - but need the right timing first :)

We are working on the server, atm we have a Forestry missmatch:

Yea i think that's the best thing. Though im not sure how this ID conflict is happening even though this is a normal Direwolf20 Server with BukkitForge added on. There should not be any ID conflicts. and Forge should be smart enough to just sync your ID's to the server's config... That would be something smart to add to Forge to prevent ID conflicts on servers.

Well the configs haven't been changed, so I have no idea why they suddenly mismatch. Maybe the servercrash altered the configs, though I cannot see how.
We are on it!
