I gave this a shot because the more I played and watched YouTube, i discovered that i would have been happier with the Direwolf20 Modpack instead of the Mindcrack Pack. Even though most of my subs on YouTube are Mindcrackers. I don't want GregTech, i wasn't planning on messing with trains, and i decided a switch needed to happen.

So as opposed to restarting i thought I would see if i could move my save file from Mindcrack 8.1.1 to Direwolf20's latest.

So far it is a success, I only had a minor amount of items from mods not in Dire's pack that went away and i haven't had any issues with any of the items that stuck around. The only thing i lost in the move from a mod that they share (that i know of, if i notice anything else i will post here again) were the way-points in REI's Minimap. Which is a bummer but not game-breaking. i can always go back, write them down and add them manually from the old save.

I couldn't find anyone mentioning that they had tried this so I just wanted to make a post to 1. say that it is possible to move your save to a new pack if you are willing to lose some items. And 2. IF anyone else has done this can you give me any warnings about later instability that i wont see right away so i don't lose a a lot of work if the transition isn't stable.

Happy Beast Feeding!

I cannot think of any actual possible unstable aspects, but I'd REALLY hate to lose out on GregTech as it adds a LOT of nice things, especially in the endgame. You think otherwise, though, and I'm not going to try and change your mind as you gave it a goodness to honest shot it sounds like, so more power to you!

Yeah, It wasn't so much Mr. Tech that made my decision (not to turn this into a gregtech debate since im sure there are MORE than enough of those out there :D ) than i felt i would have more fun with the slightly more magical oriented Direwolf pack. Thanks for the reply though. Its good to know there arent any immediately obvious issues.

You should have just added the DW20 stuff you wanted into your pack. Really the only magical things you're missing is Xeno's Reliquary and Mystcraft. Mindcrack has Thaumcraft, right?

Ironically you get the way cooler Modular Powersuits mod on the tech side by switching to DW20, so go crazy. Good luck.

That's a perfect description of the packs. Direwolf20 leans towards magic, Mindcrack leans towards machines.

Thanks, They are both very similar packs wth jsut that slight variance. Mostly the same experience with a different flavor. I think they were both pretty well balanced packs.

Update: No Issues so far in the transition. The sorting System is working well and im working my way to the thaumic bees to clean this vispolution

And yet ironically DW20 tends to automate and make really intense builds much more often than I've observed the mindcrack folks to do.

Haha i didnt even think about that. I think it has to do with his familiarity of the mods. The Mindcrackers are getting more and more elements of automation as they go through the mods and get settled in to their style of choice. Watching Etho hes about to get a pretty fun automation going with carts flying everywhere. Generik has a really nice bee automation setup going on, and his biofuel set up is nice. but they done have automation on the scale of Dire.

Update: Looks like there was in issue with the Chunk Loader. Broke and replaced them and all is well. Just a note for anyone trying this. I want to keep any issues i find in this thread for someone else that might want to know if this is possible. Even thought the odds are I am the only idiot that has tried this.

Mainly due to their lack of knowledge. DW has been using these mods almost since they were in alpha build status. Naturally he'd be better at them than the Mindcrack guys. But they're progressing. I can't watch most of their vids on FTB now since its frustrating to watch them waste time and resources. Etho is the only tolerable one. I stick to watching their vanilla vids

We're about to start some Let's plays with an FTB derivative pack. Hopefully we can do better. :)

Since the Ultimate pack is in beta, you could try using that, although i use my own client and would remove a few mods that i find OP from the ultimate pack. (Power converters hint hint)
Oh, btw, my Client has 125 mods ^^
hehe

I also converted from mindcrack to direwolf, I wanted thaumic bees and modular powersuit.

Some missing items but the most annoying thing is that I live in the desert, all the oil sand converted to air leaving voids everywhere.

Removing mods is much harder than adding them. General rule: don't do it. Next time just consider making your own custom modset. It's not terribly difficult for cross-FTB mods; they've done the work for you.

I started my client just before FTB was released.
Over 125 mods now <3
