Perhaps, but calculations are usually done on the servers end, not the clients end. Which usually means server lag, not FPS loss.

Errrrr, Allocating more RAM to FTB just allocates more RAM to the JVM (Java) - which does the exact same thing. I wouldn't recommend setting a global JVM memory limit as applications usually handle this quite well, but since FTB doesn't, they give you a pretty little slider for it since there's so much more content.

Fair enough, I'll stay away from the tech advice for now ;) Just for some odd reason I swear doing it through the java install vs the launcher was helping more.

well... the aura thing does still have merit tho. especially if there are entities being spawned in the area that do affect it directly. wisps being spawned might do this perhaps? I know that if you mess up the aura of an area wisps will start to spawn there until the aura has balanced out again, so these dungeons might have an impact on the local aura, thus causing a lot of recalculations. even tho the server might not lag noticeably, does not mean it wont be noticed by a client with a slow connection. (lots of updates has to be pushed to the client after all)

I'm playing ssp tho, so any lag would probably be from the recalcs themselves in my case.

Thanks for everyone's feedback

I have removed Reis Minimap, everything voxel related, liteloader and basically anything that wasn't necessary to login to the server I play.

I cannot get away with removing thaumcraft because I am playing / experiencing these issues on a SMP server - therefore I wouldn't be able to join. I can tell you though that everything is 50x worse on SP - but SP has always been laggy for me. (at least until the world settles)

I have "made up" for the lag by lowering view distance and using optifine and tweaking some settings to get better fps. The fps definitely still dips when looking at these "spots", but since I have higher FPS overall, it's less noticeable.

I have zero idea what most of the mods do, but apparently there's some sort of invisible aura thing? That's interesting, and would make sense. I'll have to grab me some of those goggles or whatever to investigate.

The Aura and Goggles of Revealing are Thaumcraft. To learn how to craft them, you have to research them to unlock them and to get your Thaumanomicon to instruct you on how to make them. The Thaumanomicon is made by using the basic wand on a Bookshelf. It serves as a Thaumcraft progress tracker and in-game wiki, though it doesn't really tell you about stuff you haven't learned yet.

Ive been poking around with those goggles on. It does not seem to be the aura. Not for me annyway. Whenever i got those FPS dips there is no aura in sight. Infact ive had the dips happening when i was looking away from an aura :S

Annyway, i see a new version is out, maybe something got fixed :)

I disabled the minimap and that helped quite a bit. I also updated to V5 and overall my FPS is higher. Every once in awhile though, I get a massive lag spike.

I just uninstalled optifine as it has been giving me nothing but problems. I hope it's the source of some random crashes as well. Hopefully this fixes the lag spikes.

Edit: Still getting lag spikes after uninstalling optifine, but not as bad. Strangely, my FPS went up as well. No crashes either.

v6 definitely fixed alot / most of the lag issues I was experiencing - so one of the mods must have solved it.
