ALRIGHTY THEN!
Kogie was sitting at the watchtower's roof - it was an old tall house that he and Euphy hand added a pair of extra floors and a balcony using random construction junk, which ended up being their hideout. The two short swords of him were strapped to his back, always in draw position. He heard the door opening. Euphy had entered, and so did Jurin and a pair of ladies, apparently a human and an elf. He went to the third floor, which was an original floor of the house - after that, the rest was built from scrap. The human said her name was Trillium, and the elf was called Rhsolyn.
"Mate, can you listen to what I've got to tell?"
"Sure, Jurin."
"We have a mission."
Kogie thought he was dreaming. A mission? Only bounty hunters, scouts and the royalty's chosens could be in missions. Jurin was a scout working for the city's mayor, which ended up being a king. Not exactly the best job, but surely the most exciting. Kogie? 16, and he couldn't find a job. He did recieve some money from the guys in the pub - he was a master at poker, and being a guard was pretty good. But, still, he couldn't be in a mission. So where did the mission came from and why he and Euphy were in?
Rhsolyn spoke.
"I am an elf princess."
Kogie's sarcasm meter was raising up.
'Control yourself' - he thought - 'Being snarky isn't going to give a good impression of you'.
"I have to find my kingdom back, and become the ruler of there. We may find other wood elves. Who knows, some may have survived."
"Really? What's your proof?"
Rhsolyn told him her story, and he listened to it, quiet. A question was flickering around his mind, coming back every now and again, and he couldn't stop thinking about it.
"Was a man named Parvis someone who died?"
"Yes. He was a guard in the castle, died protecting me. After he fell, I thought I was going to die. I'll never forget him."
Kogie started crying.
His father.
Was dead.
He died protecting the girl that was standing right in front of him.
He was going to honor his father.
He was going to protect that girl.
No matter what.
In the end, it didn't matter - he was just doing what his father wanted him to do.
Keep the family business.
Protect people, no matter what.
Dying protecting someone at 20 is more honorable than dying from a disease at 70.
"Rhsolyn" - Kogie said, with a mix of tears of hope, sadness and happiness in his eyes - "What do we have to do for you, princess?"
