If I could be 100% sure, that the room-to-be only contains stone, dirt and gravel and nothing else, I would use the no-drop filler. But if there is a chance for even one coal, I want the drops. Turtle is the future. (Anyone else thinking about the SkyTurtle framework from another thread?)

Thoroughly agree. And as I've mentioned, fillers can (and were when drops were disabled on my old server) be used for large-scale mining even when they don't drop items - have them dig out slits of one block in three and jetpack down the rows, gathering exposed ores.

Well talking about fillers...

Yesterday I wanted to clear out what some might say is a quite large area. 30x60x20 to be exact. I set a turtle to do the job. Five hours later, it was about halfway done. So I said screw it, placed a filler, which finished the rest in maybe a minute. Yes, I lost a bunch of iron/tin/copper, but to me these are really not worth saving hours of time. Even if the filler gave no drops whatsoever, and kept its current speed, I would happily use it all the time.
